What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘monsters’? Is it a bad thing? A good thing? Is it scary? Or, is it a good dinosaur that is your best friend? Is it an alien? Or a Ghost? What is a monster anyway? Will you qualify something that doesn’t look like a human, a monster? Is monster an ‘it’? Or a living thing? Well, we don’t think that we can make up our minds about that. What about you?
When we hear someone say monster, the first word that comes to our mind is scary, but some of the movies below will change that perspective of yours. Monsters aren’t always scary. Some of them are good. People tend to misunderstand things that look different.
We know, we can call some humans monsters too. You don’t call someone a monster because of the way they look but because of the deeds they do.

Monsters vs. Aliens is a 3D animated movie where a girl on her wedding is transformed into a big version of herself; in short, she gets giant. Well, of course, there is a reason for how she got that. Will you give a hint? A large rock from outer space hit her. Yup, a meteorite.
As simple and plain as it may sound, the movie is not about that. That’s just the start. To get her freedom, she is joined a team with good monsters (and so cute that you want to pet them) to defeat the evil alien who is invading the Earth.
Monsters vs. Aliens received positive reviews and was a success at the box office but was not as successful as providing a sequel of it. However, many spin-offs and television shows have been made. It (2017) is adapted from Stephen King’s novel of the same name, released in 1986. This movie is the reason why Stephen King is called the King of Horror. Although the novel has an alternative timeline narrative in the third person, the movie is in the chronological timeline and covers half of the book. The other half of the boom is covered and shown in the second part and IT Chapter Two (2019).
Set in Derry, Maine, It is the story of a friend group of 7 children who have been outcasted and named “The Losers.” They are the ones who discovered the presence of Pennywise, a supernatural entity that preys on children. At first, Stephen King wanted to name the novel Troll but keeping in mind that the antagonist submerges and uses the sewer system under the city, he went for “IT.”
It (2017) shows the time (1960) when children were young and discovered a darkly dressed clown. The clown can show children their worst fear, and he can shapeshift and go unseen by adults. Chapter two is set in the time (1990) when they are all grown up and that to defeat Pennywise again.

After Krasinski’s second child, he was very much into the concept of what parents would do to save their children. Emily Blunt encouraged John to direct the movie, and we must say he did bring the best out of the movie.
The movie revolves around the Abbott family, who lives in an isolated farmhouse in upstate New York. A Quiet Place follows the post-apocalyptic world where blind monsters attack the world and kill almost everyone. The monsters were blind, so they used their hearing to hunt their prey, humans.
After the Abbott family lost their daughter, they took the coping mechanisms and turned their house upside down. The story follows one year after their loss and how father Lee lost his life to save his sons. Their daughter was deaf, which came out as a plus point for them as for the noise-sensitive monsters, they knew American Sign Language.
Initially, the creators were being ‘creative’ and decided not to add subtitles but just clues so that the audience decipher the dialogues themselves. The actors had to play a prominent role in that, but they realized that the fight scene between the father and deaf daughter did need the subtitles and eventually added them for the whole movie. Professional sign language teachers and actors were also hired.
The movie received a lot of appreciation, especially for the use of sign language and John’s direction. The plot, narrative, screenplay, editing, and acting was just the additional factor. A Quiet Place was nominated for 35 awards, out of which they won 10 awards. A Quiet Place Part II was also released in 2020, with most of the ensemble cast returning with Cillian Murphy.

3. Zombieland (2009)

Zombieland had to be on top of your Zombie centered movie. What makes this movie fun is the humor in it. Non-forced, natural humor.
The story is about a college student who finds three other people in a zombie-apocalyptic world who are traveling through the Southwestern US to find a place without Zombies. A fun fact, they don’t use their real names. They use the name of the places that are important to them.
Furthermore, they have 33 rules to survive a Zombie world, and they also have “Zombie Kill of the week.” Do you see what they did here? Zombie world, but make it fun.

Well, he was brave and smart enough to catch the deadliest Dragon, Nightfury, whom Hiccup named Toothless, but instead of turning him in, he befriended him and convinced others that they and the dragons could live side by side.
The second part follows the story after five years and is about a dragon hunter. The third part follows one year after that and how Hiccup had to let go of his only true friend, Toothless. Believe me, we all cried at the end. They both have children now. He is so grown up. We deserve a toothless in our lives too.

1. Zodiac
Okay, none of the deadly, giant, or ugly-looking creatures features in this film. But, then, how is this a monster film, right? As we asked before, would you consider someone/something a monster just because it looks a certain way, or will you look at the deeds they do? Because we certainly don’t think that toothless (from How to Train Your Dragon) is a monster.
This movie made it to this list because of the figurative speech we use. Humans are creatures and use attach the word “monster” to them quite frequently. Well, Zodiac will always be considered one of the movies that give you chills. If you haven’t watched this movie, then don’t worry. We ain’t spoiling it for you.
