Into The Wild
Of course, this is the perfect movie to start this list. Directed by Sean Penn, Into the Wild is a good flick that is based on a true story of a college student, Christopher, played by Emile Hirsch, who goes on exploring the world to find peace and heal his insides. The film, which has stunning cinematography, questions whether our place in society conflicts with the natural world.
Christopher leaves everything behind and travels alone, discovering humanity along the journey in unexpected places such as Alaska, the prime setting of the movie. Emile did a great job in delivering the emotions, and Kristen Stewart, too, complemented him well. They both gave the base to the film, and you will feel at home with this movie as a traveler.
Money is only an easy explanation for someone who lacks the motivation to travel the world, as this movie has just proven. We need to break free from our regular lives and try to create something extraordinary so that we can cherish every one of them. If you select any of the movies from this list, Into The Wild deserves one shot.

The Beach
It’s no surprise that The Beach is included on this list of the best travel movies, as it encouraged tens of thousands of wanna-be travelers to fly to Thailand in quest of the ideal beach and a different way of life. The Beach came out in 2000, and it is the original back your bags lazy vibe movie. As it came out in 2000, the movie truly shows what Thailand indeed was before it became popular and everyone started to flood there to spend the holidays.
Back in the day, it was the backpacker’s paradise. A contentious movie in some ways because of the excessive tourism developed around Koh Phi Phi’s Maya Bay, a beach that was included in the Hollywood production. The Beach does a terrific job at capturing the tourist lifestyle, creating a great ambiance, and giving you the feeling of being a tourist out exploring.
This film features an adventure-like atmosphere with elements of thrill, anxiety, and tragedy. It has a deep message, and it stands out from other films because it prompts us to consider the parasites that humans are, infecting the planet and the natural world around us, raising issues with tourist destinations where the environment is destroyed as a result of tourism.
- Released in: 2000
- IMDB Score: 6.6
- Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Virginie Ledoyen, Tilda Swinton

Eat, Pray, Love
I had never before seen a film that was that brilliant, lovely, and profound. It underlines the fundamental purpose of life and is replete with lessons that everyone should be aware of and understand. The movie came out in 2010, and it has aged beautifully.
The lead actor in this film was Julia Roberts, who played Elizabeth. She exhibits genuine strength and perseverance throughout her trip as she overcomes the numerous difficulties that come with change, such as doubt, anxiety, grief, and uncertainty.
Alongside her, Javier Bardem did a great job in complimenting her and elevating the story plot for the viewers. In other words, this film teaches us that we must overcome our concerns even when doing so is difficult and unavoidable since the possibility for improvement is priceless.
In addition, the scenery was breathtaking, as it had been recorded in actual cities, which made the viewing experience a lot better. This movie will tell you what it feels like when you travel to new places and how it helps you in exploring yourself as an individual. This movie should be on your watch list if you like watching movies.
- Released in: 2010
- IMDB Score: 5.8

Wild
The movie came out in 2014. It focuses on Cheryl, portrayed by Reese Witherspoon, a lost and depressed woman who makes the difficult 2600-mile Pacific Crest Trail walk in an effort to find solace for herself. You will feel like you are walking the trail with Cheryl, making it one of the toughest on the planet.
From the southern end of this walk to the northern tip, every step is difficult. The difficulties are made tougher by the strange characters you run into, the risks from wildlife, and the shifting terrain along the trail. The fact that Cheryl is a tenderfoot and has no prior experience makes it even harder.
Every time you think Cheryl is about to have trouble, however, she manages to stay out of it. Reese Witherspoon did an amazing job with her role. In many ways, you will be alive and stuck with the movie until it ends. It is a beautiful movie. All the scenes, videography, and portrayal were so elegant and attractive.
- Released in: 2014
- IMDB Score: 7.1
- Cast: Reese Witherspoon

The Motorcycle Diaries
After watching this movie, you may leave your job, get a bike, and go out into the world. In the earlier years of Che Guevara, This biopic about him is definitely an encouragement to the viewers because of how driven he is as a young man. Later, having changed and come from Argentina, they became this courageous, inspiring leader of the Cuban revolution.
The movie’s excellent narrative keeps you engaged throughout the two friends’ journey. The acting of both actors is excellent. The movie’s director has maintained the flow of their adventure. A movie that uplifts, encourages and teaches you that life is all about giving what you can rather than always receiving from others.
It is a film you’ll remember forever. A film that inspires you to travel and explore the world in order to learn about it and appreciate the beauty of its people and natural environment. It is a lighthearted movie with a fun and cheesy element in it.
- Released in: 2004
- IMDB Score: 7.7

Easy Rider
It is a classic biker movie that came out in 1969. You will absolutely love this movie if you love riding on bikes and exploring new places. I thought everyone gave great acting performances, but Dennis Hopper’s was my favorite. His directing is also excellent.
It was a brave decision, but stripping away anything he believed was not essential to the story, including individual backstories, gives the film a genuine sense of being a moment in time. I thought everyone gave great acting performances, but Dennis Hopper’s was my favorite.
His directing is also excellent. It was a brave decision, but stripping away anything he believed was not essential to the story, including individual backstories, gives the film a genuine sense of being a moment in time. This movie is considered to be one of the best travel movies of all time.

Lost in Translation
It is one outstandingly written movie. Lost in Translation writing is excellent, with a good mix of upbeat humor and melancholy introspection. The narrative, which is propelled by the characters, moves slowly but on design; otherwise, the charm and poignancy would have been lost, and the title would have lost its meaning.
I adore the mysterious but profound conclusion. In addition to being both humorous and tragic at the same time, Lost in Translation is a wonderful and very emotional movie. Bill and Scarlett did a great job of making the characters loveable.
A decent portrayal and calming, soothing aura of the movie set in Tokyo will make you fall in love with it. It is a good romantic drama with a pinch of humor, and there and good performances all across the movie.
- Released in: 2003
- IMDB Score: 7.7
- Cast: Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson

The Darjeeling Limited
Three brothers embarked on a rail journey across India after their father passed away in an effort to rekindle their lost ties. The majority of Rajasthan is featured in the movie, which made an effort to maintain an authentic Indian journey.
Even though it was said that the brothers’ mother lives in the Himalayas, the feeling couldn’t be conveyed in the 15-20 minute sequence with their mother. The drama with three characters was excellent, and the actors did a fantastic job.
No matter where you are reading this from, you should definitely check this movie once. The movie explores various beautiful locations in India. The Star cast also has big names, and they set a good vibe along with the beautiful locations in India.
- Released in: 2007
- IMDB Score: 7.2

Before Sunrise
I am sure you must have heard about this movie or seen the movie clips and posters on the movie. It came out in 1995, but it is still relevant today because it is a timeless movie and the emotion behind this movie is undying. It is one of the loveliest movies ever made. A tale of two total strangers who meet while traveling by train and decide to spend the day together in Vienna.
As they explore the town, they get to know one another and ultimately develop a romantic relationship. The author did a fantastic job. It is quite challenging to maintain the audience’s interest during a movie where the performers only talk about random events in their lives.
The relationship between the leads, represented by Ethan Hawke as Jesse and Julie Delpy as Celine, is the actual secret to the movie’s beauty, and the delivery of such a simple and straightforward movie is done uniquely.
- Released in: 1995
- IMDB Score: 8.1
- Cast: Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
As both the lead and the director of this understated yet intricate character study, Ben Stiller excels. Walter Mitty captures the enchantment of true classic cinema without the use of heavy CGI. It was beautifully filmed, well-edited, and matched with fantastic music.
The storyline and Ben Stiller’s portrayal of Walter Mitty’s character have profound meanings. You can literally feel the dreamer inside of you. It should go without saying that the cinematography is simply magnificent. The movie has a very distinctive movement between fantasy and reality.
The movement between the character’s imagination and reality was rather seamless, although I could tell as the viewer that it was. It makes the bizarre daydreams appear incredibly relatable to the spectator. Alongside Ben Stiller, you will also love the portrayal of Kristen Wig’s character.
- Released in: 2013
- IMDB Score: 7.3
- Cast: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wig

Seven Years in Tibet
The movie came out in 1997, but the setup is based on the year 1944-1951. This movie will teach you there is no end to learning anything from one person to another. The movie has a very distinctive line between fantasy and reality.
The movement between the character’s imagination and reality was rather seamless, although I could tell as the viewer that it was. It makes the bizarre daydreams appear incredibly relatable to the spectator.
It is quite straightforward, has a big impact, and travels you across a huge distance in just over 2.5 hours. Everyone with an appreciation for quality cinema should watch this; it is something you have never seen. You will undoubtedly love this movie because of its purity and the message it delivers.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
One of the most inspirational movies ever created. The acting, directing, and cinematography are on par with the best movies ever made in terms of quality. Dames Maggie and Judy steal the show as the ladies, but the entire cast turns in outstanding performances, making this a must-see film for anybody with a heart to love.
Dev Patel is amusing and holds the plot and the character of the movie together. You will enjoy reading the character backstories and learning about how some people are much more adventurous and how others struggle to fit into a new culture.
All the actors did a fine job acting. On the other hand, the setup is amazing. The movie is based in a hotel in Jaipur, so you can connect the dots and understand the whole Indian vibe with such great actors.

The Loneliest Planet
New-age love birds plan a good amount of adventures and trips before tying the knot. Now I do not know if they have heard the popular Mark Twain quote about marrying a person based on his travel compatibility with yourself. This movie is exactly based on the same thought.
This lovely drama is set up in the beautiful background of the Georgian Caucasus Mountains. Nica, played by Hani Furstenberg, and Alex, played by Gael García Bernal, are a couple that goes trekking in the mountains and learns a lot of things about each other. If you can relate to the setup of the movie by any means, then you should definitely have a look at this movie one time.

Que Tan Lejos
This movie came out in 2006, and it is about a female friendship formed during an adventurous road trip from Quito to Cuenca in Ecuador. In the movie, you will see breathtaking scenes from the Ecuadorian landscape. The movie also focuses on the respective eye of the outsider and how it is very different from someone who is a native of that place.
This is a big difference that you will see when they both travel to various places and locations. It is a good movie, and the actors did a good job of expressing their views and emotions through the beautiful setup of the movie. It is certainly a must-watch for someone who loves road trips and loves to explore new and different places. It is a bonus watch if you are planning to explore South America.

Hector and the Search for Happiness
It came in 2014, and it shows the journey of Hector, portrayed by Simon Pegg. He is a psychiatrist, and he decides to explore the world and find out what is that thing that makes people happy. This is one of those questions to which many people don’t know the answer. Even if they know the answer, it is never the same for anyone.
His journey takes him to unexpected places, from nightclubs to drug lords, and he even gets in a tight situation where he almost gets killed. It’s impressive; the French never cease to astound me in literature, art, or science. When it’s not busy murdering others, humanity is lovely.
In addition, this film is about Hector’s life. It is a good movie with a soothing storyline. No hooks or crooks were used in the movie, just a plain simple narrative to deliver the story with the hidden message. And again, Simon is a good actor, and he did the same in this movie.
- Released in: 2014
- IMDB Score: 6.9
- Cast: Simon Pegg, Rosamund Pike

Tracks
The young woman, who learns about Camels, rapacious and unethical Europeans, as well as the heartbreaking integrity of Aboriginals she discovers along the route, is graphically enhanced by the intense heat and desolate and trackless roads by the cinematography.
Mr. Eddy and his family help to make up for the movie’s one big flaw, which is the inability of Robyn to express why she is so enraged with the world and all people as she starts her challenging walk. It is a good movie. The story will keep you hooked.
The way it was represented was beautiful, a story with a hidden message. Adam and Mia were a good duo, and all in all, the movie was just so good-looking and appealing. You should definitely watch this movie if you love natural scapes. Full of lovely emotions.
- Released in: 2013
- IMDB Score: 7.1
- Cast: Mia Wasikowska, Adam Driver

Given
It came out in 2016 and is the story of the son of Aaimon Goodwin and Dazie Goodwin, who is a six-year-old. The narrative lacked intrigue and failed to capture my interest. The fact that they played the same music throughout the majority of the film made me dislike most of the scenes since all I could think about was how frequently they had recycled the same song.
With each new site they visit, the entire film keeps repeating itself. The movie received mixed reactions and was not well received by the audience. So you may skip this movie or if you like surfing, then maybe give it a shot.
- Released in: 2016
- IMDB Score: 7.7
- Cast: Aaimon Goodwin, Dazie Goodwin, Given Goodwin

Y Tu Mamá También
This sensual adventure was directed by Mexican Alfonso Cuarm, one of the best foreign film directors. As everyone is bashful and two people are undoubtedly more capable, direct, and courageous doers, sex typically begins with friends.
Tenoch & Julio are sharing & having sex with whomever they come across. They are a part of Sex & Drugs together. They encounter sultry Louisa, who is devastated to learn about her husband’s escapades.
She accepts a picnic invitation from boys at Mouth of Heaven Beach. You have already seen Diego Luna in various movies and TV shows, and Gael García Bernal is seen in these travel-oriented movies, and his other various movies are already on the list.
- Released in: 2001
- IMDB Score: 7.7
- Cast: Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal

Queen
The film is excellent. She is quite nice and gently spoken, and that doesn’t alter as she travels. In Paris, she makes some incredible friends. Additionally, she stays in Amsterdam with three other guys, with whom she eventually gets close. She gives her first kiss.
She defies all expectations and always accepts new experiences without judgment. Olexandar, a Russian boy, gives her such gorgeous glances, but he never actually flirts with her. Although the hints only suggest that they might have excellent chemistry.
All in all, this is a highly recommended movie, and you will love Kangana’s acting. The movie also delivers a good message about women’s empowerment in a funny and adventurous way.
- Released in: 2013
- IMDB Score: 8.1
- Cast: Kangana Ranaut, Lisa Hayden, Rajkumar Rao

Brokedown Palace
A really good film about two young, attractive women who are duped into smuggling drugs into Thailand, caught at the international airport in Bangkok, and given lengthy prison sentences at a facility with appalling living circumstances.
Even though the story may not be genuine, it serves as a caution to stay away from drugs when traveling abroad because the penalties can be severe. Bill Pullman and Claire Danes excel in all of their roles. There is some excellent music in this movie, particularly by Delerium and Sarah Brightman.
- Released in: 1999
- IMDB Score: 6.4
- Cast: Claire Danes, Kate Beckinsale, Bill Pullman
- Streaming Platforms: Amazon Prime Videos
Thelma and Louise
Thelma & Louise is about independence and companionship, just like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Additionally, it deals with misogyny and control, yet none of these themes are overused because that is how we see these women’s lives and are free to form our own opinions about them.
In light of this, Sarandon’s character occasionally exhibits a refreshing lack of empathy. The scene in which they are silently driving down the Grand Canyon at night is pretty stunning. It’s a wonderful, honest, and ultimately depressing picture of the American Dream.
All in all, it was a fantastic movie. It was about Thelma’s inner and outer development, her ability to create new possibilities for being and break free from restrictions that buried her own self.
- Released in: 1991
- IMDB Score: 7.5
- Cast: Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon, Brad Pitt

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
Zoya Akhtar undoubtedly demonstrated her abilities in a remarkable manner. It nearly has the sense of a video for a tourist attraction because of how beautifully the natural beauty of Spain is depicted. She is adept at knowing when to jump into the action and when to focus on the setting or the main character. It almost has a meditative quality to it, which we absolutely love.
The star cast did a great job in keeping the movie light and humourous at the same time. It also had a hidden message about love, work, and life in general. As it is a Bollywood movie, the songs in the movie were so good, and they are still famous up to date.
The mesmerizing locations, beautiful songs, good acting, and near-perfect story made this a strong recommendation on our list. If you love any of the actors mentioned or love to explore the world with your friends, then you should definitely watch this movie. It is indeed one of the best movies ever made.
- Released in: 2011
- IMDB Score: 8.2
- Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif, Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol

EuroTrip
I know you already like travel movies, that is the main reason you are on the list but what if I told you this a very funny movie as well. It is based on some naive American teenagers who imagine Europe as a free continent rather than a prudish one. Globalization is also a factor in today’s time, there are no sexist jokes, and you will enjoy the movie for sure. Just make sure that you are watching them with your friends.
An adolescent comedy movie is ideal for those leisurely evenings when you don’t want the weight of travel to get in the way of its great life-altering sizzle. Do not watch this movie if you’re seeking a family-friendly comedy because it is rated 18+. It has a unique plot and generates a lot of laughter while being narrated. A pretty enjoyable movie for an average adult.
- Released in: 2004
- IMDB Score: 6.6
- Cast: Scott Mechlowicz, Michelle Trachtenberg, Jacob Pitts

The Way
The Way was released in 2010, and the main role was played by Martin Sheen. He was seen as the father, and he decided to continue the journey of his deceased son’s incomplete dream of walking the Camino de Santiago from France to Spain barefoot. Yes, you read it right, barefoot.
Initially, he just goes to collect the remainder of his son, but then the decides to finish the journey with his son to show respect and love to his son. The main selling point of this movie is the characters of the movie, their flawed communication, and the authentic feel when they communicate, which keeps the readers attracted to this movie throughout.
The movie is an emotional rollercoaster ride from unexpected joy to deep losses. The events that happen in the movie will transport us on a journey. I had the impression that I was on the trip with the protagonists as the film was so genuine.
It wasn’t moralistic or overblown, nor was it corny or sentimental. Along with the magnificent videography, all the actors, especially Martin Sheen, were terrific. From deep loss to unexpected joy, the events and emotions transport us into the narrative until we feel like a fellow traveler.
- Released in: 2010

It came out in 2007 and is the vision of Wener Herzog, a renowned filmmaker, along with Peter Zeitlinger, who is a cinematographer. They both explored Antarctica. You will see everything from native people to exotic animals to beautiful and dangerous locations. It is a beautiful masterpiece and showcases a different culture in those sub-zero climates.
Biologists, Zoologists, and travelers worldwide visit Antarctica and explore the frozen continent. This educational movie depicts Antarctica in a way that is uncommon: as a vibrant, distinctive, and biologically varied place.
This area is so poorly understood, but there is still so much to discover. Herzog’s film introduces Antarctica’s beauties, both above and below the ice, dispelling the staid and drab stereotypes about the continent.

A delightful and entertaining film about three cross-dressers who operate a pink bus in the Outback: two homosexual men, a transsexual, and themselves. The destination is Alice Springs, where they have a job at a motel operated by one of the boy’s former wives. This is a fun movie about a road trip and how unusual individual discovers themselves around others. The cast and acting were well-versed.

The Way Back
It came in 2010, and it’s a shame that this film is so underappreciated, but it’s a masterpiece. Your mind will be blown by everything, including the performers, conversation, lighting, videography, background music, storyline, art direction of the sets, and cinematography. You will be haunted for some time by the scenes from Siberia to India, the spectacular, nerve-wracking voyage across snowy landscapes and arid deserts, rivers, valleys, and mountains.
The cast also did a great job, especially Colin Farrell and Ed Harris. Both characters did a great job of striking the story and keeping the audience hooked. It is a great survival movie, and it will teach you how to survive and make your way through those tough situations. It is a total recommendation if you like survival movies and any of the star cast mentioned.

Indiana Jones
It is one of those movies which you must have heard of. Even a new Indiana Jones is in the pipeline. Harrison Ford did an exceptional job in the movie, and the movie is full of adventure, secrets, and thrills.
Forty years after their debut, the Steven Spielberg and George Lucas-produced Indiana Jones films continue to be beloved Saturday afternoon adventures, much like the serials that served as their source of inspiration. The film “Raiders,” which has a gripping narrative and is full of action, romance, and adventure, takes off and never lets up throughout its running length.
It cemented Steven Spielberg’s name as the director of a string of legendary summer blockbusters as well as the stardom of Harrison Ford, who is the main showrunner of this movie. If you love Harrison Ford and the work of Steven Spielberg, then you should definitely have a look at this movie. Jungle
All of us are fans of Harry Potter, and seeing the actor in a different movie with a different setup is a treat for the fans. Daniel Radcliff plays the lead role in Jungle which came out in 2017. This movie is well worth seeing because it really engrosses you in the characters’ transformative and emotional journey toward survival.
With each new development, the dark mood is intensified, and you get a strong sense of sympathy for the characters. Along with excellent acting and direction, the fact that this is a genuine story makes it all the more captivating. If you want to see a movie about survival and see Daniel in another role, then you should definitely watch Jungle. Totally recommended it, and I loved his acting skills and this movie.

Around the World in 80 Days
Jackie Chan is one of the most loved and enthusiastic actors. Around the World in 80 Days came out in 2004, and it is an absolutely fun movie. The lead actors in this movie adaptation of Jules Verne’s 1873 book are Jackie Chan and Steve Coogan. In the late 1800s, Phileas Fogg must complete the world’s circumference in 80 days to win a bet.
It’s always enjoyable to see Jackie Chan at work. We really love his sense of humor and stunt choreography. The tale dragged on a little and was predictable, and his on-screen chemistry with Steve Coogan wasn’t fantastic either.
Steve Coogan did an amazing job in complementing Jacki’s character and kept the fun element alive across their journey of the whole world. While some of the graphics in this movie fall flat by today’s standards but for the most part, they succeed because the majority of the movie is a fun experience.

- Cast: Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan

You can’t stop laughing at them. Kareena Kapoor is exceptional and has received every accolade in the finest actress category, and she unquestionably earned them. Shahid Kapoor is excellent and is completely natural throughout.
Dara Singh and Pawan Malhotra both do well in supporting roles. If you love these types of movies, then have a look at Jab We Met, a good, fun movie to pass the time. Expedition Happiness
Imagine for once that you can take yourself somewhere you want to go. The couple in this movie converted their old bus into their home and took it where ever they wanted to go. It was beautiful to see them explore the world in an RV.
The couple showed bravery by inviting us along on their quest for happiness. Given that they produced the entire film and scored on their own, I think they did rather well. They learned more about the people and culture of Mexico, which was fascinating.
It was more about the beautiful beauty and environment in Canada, Alaska, etc. There is no reason for the world’s extreme pessimism and depression. You will feel that they made it very obvious that the trip was fantastic up until they got the call to go home.
