Shoto Todoroki is one of the main protagonists of Boku no Hero Academia, also known as My Hero Academia. His parents have amazing quirks, which he ended up inheriting. He inherited the Ice quirk from his mom and the Fire quirk from his dad, Endeavor, who was the number 2 hero in Japan, after All Might. Shoto has a pretty tragic backstory which made the viewers emotional. 10. Shoto’s mom, Rei poured boiling water on him
Shoto’s parents had a quirk marriage, which means that they married just to produce children with good quirks. Shoto Todoroki was the only child who inherited both the quirk from his mum and dad, Endeavor. When Shoto was a child, he and his mother used to be frequently abused by his father. Shoto’s siblings were neglected by their dad, too, because he didn’t want them since they didn’t inherit good quirks.
One day, Shoto’s mom was in the kitchen, having a mental breakdown, when Shoto arrived. She poured the water on him, and when she snapped out of it. She panicked even more and froze the burn, which left off the red mark Shoto had. Endeavor sent his wife, Rei Todoroki, to a mental institution. Shoto was traumatized after this experience because this was when he realized that his dad was the reason behind this. This was when he started to hate his dad.

Shoto’s power depiction was one of the best in the UA Sports Festivals. Midoriya’s quirk ‘One for all’ proved to be quite difficult for Shoto to defeat just by using one of his sides. 8. Shoto Defeats Midoriya In UA Sports Festival
When he had excessively used his ‘icy quirk,’ his right side started to freeze. He was reluctant to his ‘fire quirk,’ but Midoriya persuaded him to accept his whole self and give his best. This incident helped him to forget his past for once and to give his best in the fight. By doing this, Todoroki defeated Midoriya. It was one of the epic moments in the anime, especially because even Endeavor was watching Shoto use his ultimate quirk, which included both ice and fire.
7. Bakugo Defeats Shoto in UA Sports Festival
Todoroki had used most of his energy on the fight with Sero as well as Izuku, which led him to grow weaker in this match. He chose not to use his ‘fire’ quirk because he had already proved himself, and using the side of his dad’s, which he had hated for a long time, left him emotionally exhausted too. After getting hit by Bakugo’s strong attacks, Todoroki fainted on the ice. Bakugo kept screaming for him to use his full potential. This is because he knew this wasn’t Shoto’s best. 6. Shoto Todoroki won the mock battles all alone
Shoto won the mock battle all alone, without his teammates’ help. He is so good that he completely froze his way through the battle. Shoto even froze his left side so as to not use it. He completely ignored the enemies as well and just froze the whole building. This showed his confidence in his abilities but showcased how he disregarded his teammates.
5. Shoto defeated villains alongside Bakugo and Kirishima
In the My Hero Academia movie, Todoroki teams up with Bakugo and Kirishima. This meant that in tough times, he was ready to show teamwork skills. These villains are sent by Wolfram. Todoroki helps his classmates to escape and then fights off with the villains. Todoroki fights marvelously, and this also portrays his soft side because he wants to protect his friends. This was an iconic moment by Shoto Todoroki as we saw him even use fire, which caused a large blast leading to the defeat of the villains. 4. Shoto Todoroki fights Ninjas in Provisional Exams
Shoto hides in the arena and hears the announcer say that about fifty students have passed which forces Shoto to get out of hiding. As soon as he gets out, Shoto is surrounded by a group of ninjas. They throw large-sized weapons while Shoto defended himself with a wall of ice before he could freeze them all in place. The student in red uses his Quirk to greatly increase the weapon’s size, and his shield of ice keeps falling apart. Projectiles are thrown at him as well. The ninja reveals his secret that the weapons consist of tungsten, an alloy that is resistant to super-high temperature.
Shoto manages to get away when the engagement fills the area with steam. He uses his ice quirk to break a tank above them. Therefore by using his fire quirk on it as well, he manages to create a huge explosion. Soon, Yokumiru announces that the 54th examinee, aka Shoto Todoroki, has passed. Here, Shoto admits that he still needs to practice simultaneous usage of his fire and ice together.
3. Shoto Todoroki vs League of Villians
Shoto gets surrounded in Landslide Zone with many villains. The villains plan to separate the students from each other and kill them off. He swiftly freezes all the villains using his ice powers and even taunts them that they got so easily beaten up by a kid. Shoto walks to the frozen villains and comes to the conclusion that the majority are just thugs, and they simply are too inferior to All Might. Suddenly, a villain attacks Shoto with a knife, and he counterattacks by freezing him on the spot. This was easily an iconic moment Shoto Todoroki left the audience to ponder over.

2. Shoto Todoroki & Izuku Midoriya Vs Stain, The Hero Killer
During his internship tenure, Shoto, Tenya, and Izuku face off the Hero Killer, Stain. Tenya gets heavily injured because he gets emotional and tries to go after Stain on his own. He wants to take revenge and kill Stain. Due to Iida, Shoto follows as well, leaving a quick message to Izuku. With a tough fight, they manage to defeat Stain while managing to protect Iida too. Since all of them used Quirks without permission, their involvement is denied, and the credit is given to Endeavor.
1. Shoto, Bakugo & Izuku vs Ending
A villain called Ending captures Shoto’s brother, aka Endeavor’s son Natsuo. Ending wants Endeavor to kill him because he’s fanatically obsessed with Endeavor. In the past, Endeavor has defeated him too. However, the situation was rather worse now. Endeavor couldn’t help but feel weak seeing his son’s painful expression. His emotions took over, and he couldn’t move. Surprisingly Midoriya, Shoto, and Bakugo took over and saved the day!
Shoto freezes Ending while Bakugoi saves Natsuo, and Izuku shields the passerby people. Later, Endeavor expresses his gratitude to the three of them for saving his son and accomplishing a task that even he hesitated to commit. This was one of the moments when Endeavor was genuinely proud of Shoto Todoroki, and this even made him realize how much his other children, like Natsuo, had grown apart from him.

3. Shoto Todoroki gets a hug by Endeavor
In My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, on Nabu Island, the UA Academy Class 1-A faces Villian Nine and his underlings. Izuku and Katsuki fight Nine while Shoto and others try to defeat Chimera. Chimera is some sort of a mutated form of a large werewolf who has all the abilities from different sorts of animals like birds, et cetera. The first fight doesn’t go up to the mark, so they gather around and improvise their plans.
In the next fight, Shoto gives his best and pushes his Quirk ‘Half Cold Half Hot’ to its extreme, and therefore he freezes Chimera. After the fight, everyone is dead tired, but finally, their mission is successful! After the fight, Endeavor unexpectedly shows up and hugs his son while crying out tears of fire. Shoto makes faces but doesn’t deny the hug. This was a sweet bonding moment, yet it’s completely understandable why Todoroki reluctantly hugs him.
2. Shoto Todoroki can’t forgive Endeavor completely
After the UA High Sports Festival, Todoroki realizes that he needs to develop his fire quirk. Therefore, he agrees to join Endeavor’s company for an internship. He wants to become a better hero, and for that, he is ready to keep his personal and professional lives away from each other. After becoming the No.1 Hero, Endeavor realizes his mistakes and even feels guilty about his past mistakes. Even though he wants to atone for those mistakes, Shoto is not ready yet to completely forgive him. What Endeavor did might be one of the unforgivable things in his family’s life. Now, Endeavor respects Shoto as a hero and a passionate individual. Izuku tells Endeavor that Shoto is mentally preparing himself to give his father a second chance. 1. Endeavor allows his children to move into an apartment with their mom
Endeavor’s obsession with defeating All Might slowly leads him to train Shoto, while he neglects the others. His and Rei’s relationship gets worse day by day due to him abusing her and all of their children. Endeavor’s behavior becomes so neglectful and shameful that Rei starts to have negative feelings for him. She had a mental breakdown and hurt Shoto. She panicked after the episode and froze Shoto, and the sudden freezing of the burn leads to his scar. After this incident, Endeavor deprived the children of their mother by putting her away in a mental institution.
When Endeavor becomes the Number 1 Hero after All Might retires, he eventually realizes the damage he did to his family due to his obsession to become Number 1. He wants to atone for his sins and accepts that they might never forgive him. Finally, he comes to the conclusion that in order for the peace of his family, he plans to stay alone in the old house so that Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shoto can move in with their mother in a new house built house. He figures out that this would help the children to spend time with their mother and perhaps keep them away from the traumatic memories of the past.
