Missing either one or both of their parents has always been a perennial problem for most of the shone protagonists, and My Hero Academia’s Izuku Midoriya is no exception. It has been the five seasons, and yet we haven’t seen Izuku’s father even for once, and many fans have already started wondering if he will ever show up any time soon. Considering how his mother keeps mentioning her husband, it’s safe to assume that he isn’t dead or divorced yet. Moreover, the absence of a father has also helped a lot in his character growth. Think for yourself, would Midoriya have looked up to All might so much if he had a responsible father at home? It’s because he didn’t have one, All might stepped forward to fill that absence.
Now, a missing father right from the very beginning gives rise to many crazy possibilities and fan theories. It also gives the Hiroshi sensei an opportunity for a major plot revelation later in the series. Who knows, he may as well turn out to be the Obito Uchiha of My Hero Academia. Here’s everything that we know about Midoriya’s father so far.
Who is Izuku Midoriya’s Father?
Izuku’s father’s name is Hisashi Midoriya, who is said to have signed for a work post abroad when Izuku was very young. If I remember correctly, Izuku’s father wasn’t with him when he was taken to the doctor for his quirk revelation, so I am guessing that his father was already gone by that time and never returned in all these years.
After thorough analysis, I learned that the word ‘Hisashi’ means ‘a long ago, which subtly hints at his long absence in the story. Furthermore, it is also the same kanji as the “Ku” in Izuku’s name. I know assuming something just from his name is pretty far-fetched, but all these can’t possibly be mere coincidences.
Hisashi Midoriya’s Fire Quirk: Is He Endeavor?
In the very first chapter, when Izuku visited the quirk doctor with her mother, we got to know that Hisashi’s quirk was firebreathing. Inko’s embarrassed expression confirmed that Hisashi’s quirk was pretty average, thereby narrowing down the possibility of him being either a hero or a villain. However, as you may already know, the first rule of watching anime is, ‘Expect the Unexpected,’ thereby opening up the possibilities of Izuku’s father being someone we already know.
Many fans share the theory of Endeavor being Izuku’s father and the fact that he already had a history of being an awful father makes the theory a little more believable. But, the insane idea doesn’t fit the story at all, with Izuku having absolutely no resemblance with Endeavor, and he has never hinted at having any connection with Inko. Moreover, judging from how self-centered and ambitious the world’s #2 her is, he will never marry (or have an affair with) someone as ordinary as Inko.
Is Izuku’s Father, a Villain? Is He All for One?
The main villain resorting to an alias title often opens up the possibility of him turning out to be someone very close. Remember how Obito, Kakashi’s childhood friend, turned out to be the leader of the Akatsuki? There’s a slim possibility that My Hero Academia’s story may take a similar turn of events in the future.
All for One being an overpowered and immortal character who has defeated countless heroes in his reign almost nullified the possibility of him turning out to be Izuku’s father. However, since All for One can acquire many quirks, many fans share the opinion that he could have shown just one of his quirks while he was with Inko.
Well, All for One’s son being trained by All Might, the successor of One for All, may sound like an interesting theory, but what motive could he have behind marrying Inko? So, what I believe is, Hisashi is just another salaryman who grew too busy at work to check up on his family. It only seems logical since Inko is a housewife, and there has to be someone taking care of the family’s expenses. In the worst-case scenario, he may turn out to be one of Tomura Shigaraki’s experiments, but then again, it’s too far-fetched to consider this as a theory just yet.
Will Izuku’s Father ever Show up?
Mangaka Kohei Hiroshi himself confirmed that Izuku’s father would be revealed at a point in the series. So, you can rest assured that sooner or later, the mystery swirling around his unknown identity will be solved. The manga has already started showing us heroes of other nations, and this can lead us to Izuku’s father, who happens to live abroad as well.
I am really looking forward to how Izuku reacts while confronting his father for the first time. He must be having a lot of complaints about how Hisashi didn’t check up even when he was fighting the deadliest villains or was in the hospital bed with a grave injury.
