Role-playing games have been ruling the gaming world for a while. There are several games out there available to the fans; each is unique and different in its way. The ILCA added another one to the long list of RPG games on January 12, 2023. ILCA developed the game, and Bandai Namco Entertainment published it.
The game was first announced on March 28, 2022, during the One Piece 25th-anniversary celebration, and it has finally been released for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox. Some fans have fallen in love with the game, while others remain disappointed. So let us see if the game is worth your time and money.
One Piece Odyssey: Story
The game opens up with Luffy and his crew, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, and Robin, shipwrecked on a mysterious island called Waford. The island is filled with greenery, and there are beaches and ruins scattered across it. The crew is separated from Zoro, Brook, and Nami thus. They move around the island in their search.
While searching, they stumble across Adio Suerte and Lim, a young woman who can steal others’ powers. Lim steals everyone’s powers and scatters them across the island, sending them to different places. Luffy and his crew must now visit and search Memoria, a world built from their memories, to find and regain their powers. During this search, they will relive their memories of meeting some known friends and foes.
During the exploration of Memoria, the characters visit various places belonging to the previous arcs of the anime. During this time, they will visit places such as Arabasta Kingdom, Water 7, Enies Lobby, Marineford, and Dressrosa. Let us quickly recall these places and their significance in the anime.
Arabasta Kingdom:
Arabasta is defined as a kingdom that is similar to middle eastern regions. Here the crew prevents Sir Crocodile, the leader of The Baroque Works, from taking the island. After the events that happen on the island, Luffy’s bounty is increased to 100,000,000 and Zoro’s to 60,000,000.
Water 7:
Known as the capital of water, the crew stops at water 7 to get The Going Merry repaired; however, they face a series of bad incidents, and the crew is split apart
Marineford:
The crescent moon-shaped Marineford island, whose only entrance is through the gates of justice, is the base of operations for marine headquarters. Ace awaits execution on Marineford island, and Whitebeard, along with an army of pirates, arrives there to get him back. A war is waged, which changes everything.
Enie’s lobby:
A government-controlled stronghold located in paradise Enie’s lobby or Judicial Island is the place where Robin and Franky were taken after being captured. Luffy and his crew make their way through the island of marines to rescue them and take them home.
Dressrosa:
In the anime, Dressrosa is an island and a kingdom. It is located in the new world and is also one of the twenty kingdoms that founded the world government. During this arc, the crew finds Sabo to be alive. They also face Doflamingo. In the end, Luffy beats him, and Doflamingo is arrested.
The story moves forward, and Luffy and his crew keep on fighting their foes, defeating them one after the other, all in the hope that soon this all will be over, and they will be able to go back to their lives, continuing their journey and having adventures.
One Piece Odyssey Gameplay
The game starts, and the player has to defeat several enemies. Each win provides them with the abilities they can use and help them in their journey. Each character is provided with its own ability that can be useful in different parts of the game.
Luffy can stretch his arms to reach various places, and Nimble can be used to explore the narrow passageways other characters are too big to fit through. Other characters are given their own abilities that can be used for different purposes. Locating precious loot and breaking down gates are some of many such abilities.
The combat system of the game is a turn-based system which may not be unique but still seems exciting and interesting in its way. Each character is provided with an ability that is unique to them. Using these abilities exhausts TP, which can be replenished using melee attacks.
TP can be carried over to the next battle. The concept of TP makes the player careful with their resources and use their abilities in a calculated way. This shows that the game provides not only a fun, action-based experience but also a scenario where you have to think and calculate your next move to proceed forward and complete the game.
Different enemies are prone to different abilities, so every fight requires thinking and careful resource usage to have the best outcome. The player is allowed to swap a character with another active one in between an ongoing battle.
The adventure improves as the story progresses forward, with each stage being more challenging than the previous one. Besides the main story, the game provides lots of side quests that are as interesting as the main story.
The side quests are an escape from the main story, which helps the user enjoy the game without it being as challenging as the main quest. After completing each side quest, the players are rewarded, which helps them when they move forward in the game.
One Piece Odyssey Graphics
The graphics are one of the things that One Piece Odyssey excelled at and executed perfectly. The world is beautifully designed, with lush plants and greenery everywhere. Everything looks lively and vibrant. The users can get lost in its beauty and keep on exploring the neverending beaches or the big deep caves without getting bored.
Whether it is the dessert of the Alabasta or the long-running rivers of Water 7, every location is a treat for the eyes. The player can easily get lost in its beauty, and hardcore One Piece fans will enjoy visiting these locations and reliving their nostalgia. The characters are beautifully designed with great details. Each character’s moves are animated in such a flawless way that it makes every move fun to watch.

One Piece Odyssey Review
One Piece Odyssey is not a perfect game. It has some flaws that the players have complains about. There are complaints from some players about it not being hard enough and not putting up enough of a challenge, while others are not happy with the way the characters are developed.
Although there is an option to skip through dialogs quickly, the game still takes its time to get to the point before moving the story forward. The game can be enjoyed by newcomers or those who have been following the show for a long time.
Some of the instances inside the game may not impress those who are not familiar with the anime as much as those who have been into it way before the release of the game. For example, the scene where the crew sees The Going Merry again after such a long time is a feast to the viewers who are connected to the anime.
Besides its small flaws, One Piece Odyssey is a great game that can be enjoyed by everyone. The storyline does not disappoint at all, and the graphics are something that deserves appreciation. The world is beautifully built in a manner that makes you want to explore and go deeper and deeper into the game.
Every character is made perfectly, and all of their special moves are designed stunningly. One Piece Odyssey is one of the best anime games out there. It checks out all the boxes required to become a great RPG game.
