If you are a true Beatles fan, this movie is like a treasure trove that you stumble upon but just can’t get enough of, but if you are not one, then this film will leave you with a fun, heart-warming experience like no other. Richard Curtis’ Yesterday is a delightful movie with a very ‘Love, Actually’ vibe to it that has managed to garner just as much affection.
The director of the film, Danny Boyle, made a great pairing of Himesh Patel and Lilly James as the leads and a plethora of very talented supporting actors such as Ed Sheeran, Kate McKinnon, and Joel Fry. Yesterday is a great movie that reintroduces the musical phenomenon that is the Beatles back into our consciousness, making sure that the music they created remains alive even 50 years after the band separated ways.

Jack (Himesh Patel) is a frustrated yet desperate musician in the town of Lowestoft in the UK with no success in his career whatsoever despite the reassurances his manager Ellie Appleton gives him. But the very day Jack decides to give up, the entire world seems to have been hit with a blackout, during which he gets hit by a bus.
When Jack does get his consciousness back, he learns that he is now in a bizarre alternate reality where no one has ever heard the music by the Beatles. He starts by singing the music of the greatest rock band in the world, initially passing it off as his own.
The success he gains as the popular new music sensation drifts him apart from Ellie, who he realizes is the love of his life. What Jack faces now is an obligatory moral decision about his music and deciding what it is that he exactly needs to do.
The movie comes to a quite heart-warming and comforting end with a short montage of Jack and Ellie finally ending up as the couple they were destined to be and getting married to start a family, all on the tunes of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” The name of the film itself is inspired by a 1965 song by the Beatles called “Yesterday.”
Himesh Patel is a sensation to look out for, as the British actor contributes his singing and instrument playing in the movie. As expected, the soundtrack is staggering, inspired by the greatest band in history.
