Anime fans will agree when I say that A Silent Voice has some of the best slow-burn romance and character development.

But he chickens out at the last minute and asks to be her friend instead with sign language. Accepting the hand reaching out to her in friendship, Shoko and Shouya start as friends, and Shouya starts seeing people as possible friends after years of not being able to look them in their eyes due to his guilt of being a bully.

8. Bahubali: The Conclusion
A conclusion to the biggest question that was aroused by its prequel, ‘Why did Kattappa kill Bahubali?’, ‘Bahubali: The Conclusion‘ is a great fictional epic that takes place because of one Crown Prince so in love he gives up his throne for it.
Amrendra Bahubali, now the Crown Prince of Mahashmati, goes on an expedition under disguise with Katappa.
After getting attacked by some bandits and simultaneously helping Princess Devsena in the fight, he is invited to her land- Kuntala. He falls for her, much of a love-at-first-sight scenario, and goes with Kattappa while acting like a dunce.
On the other hand, Bhallaldeva also lusts for Devsena and manipulates his mother, Shivagami, to ask for her hand for him.
When the ministers sent with the proposal look down condescendingly upon the land of Kuntala, Devsena gives them a befitting reply and rejects the marriage offer. This angers not only Bhallaldeva but also Shivgami.
When the bravery and courage of Bahubali and Kattappa are witnessed under a dacoit attack, Devsena, too, falls in love with Bahubali.
After knowing the true status of Bahubali as a Crown Prince and his promise to protect her at all costs, they set off to Mahismati.

11. Eega
This movie, surprisingly, has been a super hit at the box office for its unique storyline and execution.
A concept that could be said to be the epitome of ‘never seen before,’ Eega is a story of a lover being reborn as a housefly to keep his girl safe from any harm that may occur to her. How did S.S. Rajamouli come up with this? Beats me.
Starting as a bedtime story told by a father to his daughter, the plot talks about Nani, a young man who works in fireworks and is in love with his neighbor Bindu, a miniature artist. But their love story doesn’t meet a happy ending when Sudeep, an industrialist villain lusts for Bindu and kills Nani in jealousy.
Reborn as a housefly and getting back his memories, Nani, the housefly, vows to exact revenge against Sudeep for his murder and keep Bindu safe from him.
Bindu recognizes Nani and makes him miniature goggles and armor to help him with his plan. As unrealistic and funny as this story may sound, it has worked wonders in storytelling, making you shed tears for a fly and its love for Bindu.

- Starring: Nani, Samantha Prabhu, Sudeep
12. Emma
Written by Jane Austin, this book of the same name ‘Emma’ was bound to be a sensation at its time and to date for classic literature lovers. Bringing this book to life with the main protagonist, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, the director has won the hearts of many readers.
Emma is a story about, well. Emma is a beautiful young British girl from the regency era in England with a bit of a nosy personality in romantic matters of others.
Opposite to her as her love interest is Mr. Knightly, the younger brother of her sister’s husband, i.e., Emma’s sister’s brother-in-law. When Harriet, Emma’s friend, falls for a particular gentleman, Emma’s interference causes a few clashes and sparks.

13. Hey Sinamika
Hey, Sinamika is a story of a woman wanting to be free of her talkative husband and decides to frame him as a cheater for grounds of divorce. Yeah, that’s not very convincing to me, either. But that is how it goes.
This rom-com is a story about three individuals – Yaazhan, his wife Mouna, and a third party Malarvizhi whom Mouna hires to fall in love with her husband. This movie is a remake of A Boyfriend For My Wife.
When Mouna gets tired of her husband and more or less falls out of love with Yaazhan (who loves her wholeheartedly, by the way), she wants freedom and decides to opt for divorce.
But because she doesn’t want to come clean about her loss of feelings and be the bad but honest person, she goes to a psychiatrist Malarvizhi.
She brings her in this plan to make her husband fall in love with Malarvishi, but when things actually start looking like they may go according to her plan, Mouna starts feeling restless again, but this time because she feels like she is losing her husband.
But now that she doesn’t want to divorce her husband anymore and shut down any budding feelings for Malarvizhi Yaazhan (which he doesn’t), she loses his trust in the process. Now Mouna has to start groveling and begging for acceptance and a chance to fall back.

14. Howl’s Moving Castle
A movie by Studio Ghibli, Howl’s Moving Castle, is a beautiful film about love, war, positive aging, and magic.
Set in a fantastical background mixed with a 20th-century world, giving it a steampunk look, Howl’s Moving Castle follows a girl named Sophie through her journey from a young maiden who gets cursed to be an old woman.
Sophie looks for Howl, a wizard of Inagry, to break the curse put upon her by the Witch of Waste. The background of war brings in more than just old-school romance to the movie and some more intense plot.
Howl makes Sophie, who looks like a 90-year-old granny, do his bidding when he is asked to fight a war from the king’s side. After many circumstances, Howl, despite not knowing what Sophie looks like in reality without the curse, still falls for her, and together they fight against evil and stop the war.

15. Hum Aapke Hain Koun
One does not make a list of best romances or include a couple of OG Bollywood classics. You’ll find quite a few of them in this list. Some might be your favorite too. Hum Aapke Hai Koun is one such movie that many Indian kids have watched at least once in their lives in its multiple reruns.
With its beautiful songs and splendid chemistry between not just the main couple but also the second lead couple, this movie is perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Everything aside, one must watch this movie for the gorgeous Madhuri Dixit. Speaking of Madhuri Dixit, she the role of Nisha, a young, bubbly girl who is happy for her elder sister Pooja marrying Rajesh, a rich yet simple, good-hearted man.
Prem, Rajesh’s younger brother, and Nisha fall for each other without anyone during the time of marriage arrangements. But all does not end well when Pooja dies after giving birth and leaves a young baby motherless, and Nisha is proposed to marry Rajesh.

17. Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is a coming-of-age rom-com that was the blueprint of best friends to lovers (Don’t worry, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has also made its place on this list, they just took a different take).
Jay and Aditi are long-time best friends and are now on the verge of graduation. With their own quirky nicknames for each other that only they can call the other, they are often easily mistaken as a couple due to their closeness. Their group of friends always has each other’s back, so they think about getting Jay a girlfriend at their graduation party.
When that plan falls through as Jay saves a damsel in distress, Meghna, Meghna, and Jay fall for each other, and Jay starts prioritizing her over Aditi. Though Aditi takes it in a stride initially, feelings start mixing up.

18. Jab We Met
Though many fans of the Shahid-Kareena pairing might have been upset after hearing the news of their breakup after this movie, one cannot deny the chemistry between the leads and the feel-good vibes this movie has.

- Rating: 7.9/10

19. Jodha Akbar
The casting director was having a really good deal with Hrithik-Aishwarya pairing in a historical movie with them as royals. Because let us be real, we all enjoyed the desi aesthetics in ‘Jashna-E-Bahra,’ and we had a treat watching Hrithik as Akbar and Aishwarya as Jodha.
Jodha Akbar may not be the most historically accurate movie, but it is definitely worth watching for the close-to-truth depiction the production tried while keeping it interesting and entertaining enough for a movie.
Akbar is a Mughal Emperor who marries the Rajput princess Jodha in return for her kingdom being safe from any Mughal attack and his provided protection.
Though they have a rocky start, this story evolves into a beautiful regal tale of love when both these royals go through misunderstandings, strife, and grief that transforms into love with mutual passion and respect.
- Rating: 7.5/10
- Starring: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Sonu Sood
20. Just Go With It
If you’ve ever watched Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Just Go With It, you’ve definitely noticed a few similarities. That is not to say that Just Go With It is just a remake, no, no, no, not at all. Though it may seem similar in spirit, this movie has a better-detailed script and is funnier.
Just Go With It is a story about Daniel, a plastic surgeon, who is more or less a chick magnet due to his pretense of being an unhappily married man.
But when he finds a spark with Palmer, a math teacher, he wants to be with her for more than just a fling. But that’s not possible because apparently Danny is “married.” The only one aware of this lying fiasco is his assistant Katherine.
Thus, he plans an elaborate lie involving Katherine to “divorce” him as his (fake) wife, so he can finally be free of his wife and move on with Palmer. For all that matter, in a trip involving a married( soon to be divorced?) couple, said husband’s girlfriend, and their kids, Daniel and Katherine, start getting feelings for each other.
- Rating: 6.4/10
- Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, Brooklyn Decker
21. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
The movie may be more family drama than romance, but the romance is undeniable. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is a movie that, no matter how many times you watch it, is always a great watch. It doesn’t matter whether or not you like the title track, but we were all obsessed with Bole Chudiyaan at a point.
The movie revolves around the Raichand family, with father Yashvardhan, mother Nandini, and two sons- Rahul (adopted) and Rohan. Raising and maintaining his household and business empire with a firm hand, Yash Rasichand is a mix of both gentleness and strict actions.
When Rahul fails to stand up to his expectations when he marries a small-town girl Anjali without his permission, Rahul is disowned, and he leaves to settle in America.
While all this happens, Rohan, who went through a massive glow-up, is in boarding school and is shocked to see his brother nowhere around. He vows to bring back his brother and reunite his family. On the way to completing his promise, he also falls for Pooja, Anjali’s younger sister.
- Rating: 7.4/10
- Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor
22. Kal Ho Na Ho
This movie played with a lot of tropes and endlessly pulled at our heartstrings. Kal Ho Na Ho is a story about friendship, family, love, and heartbreak. The essence of life and this movie is sung beautifully in the title track by Sonu Nigam.
Kal Ho Na Ho depicts the love triangle of three people, Aman, Naina, and Rohit. Naina is a skeptical girl who lives with a big family that mostly never has a day of peace, and this leaves her jaded. She does have a few friends she shares all her troubles with, like Dolly and Rohit.
When Aman, a ‘live as if it’s your last day,’ comes along and changes her to look at life more positively, she falls for him. At the same time, Rohit falls for Naina. Through hardships and a string of heartbreaks, and newfound hope and love, this movie is a beautiful masterpiece of ‘what-could-have-been.’
- Rating: 7.9/10
- Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preeti Zinta, Jaya Bachchan
23. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Another best friend to lovers but with a slow burn and heartache, and instead of an evil third party interfering between the two, in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, we get two couples who love each other in their own right.
Anjali Sharma and Rahul are best friends in their college years, where Anjali is ‘one of the guys’ and dresses like a tomboy, and Rahul is a player.
Their strong friendship starts to take a turn as Anjali starts falling for Rahul after Tina, the dean’s beautiful daughter, enters the picture. 24. La La Land
La La Land is famous for the great performances of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as the characters of Sebastian and Mia, respectively. This movie depicts the love between two struggling artists – Sebastian is a pianist, and Mia is an actress, and their struggle to keep their relationship afloat when external forces make it seem impossible.
Though this movie has a happy ending in its own right and is realistic, too, it could be a good depiction of how people work when love and career clash heads.
- Rating: 8/10
- Starring: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone
25. Little Women
With one of the most beautiful dialogues and its dialogue delivery comes the book-adapted period drama movie Little Women. Many have remembered this movie for the truth. It portrays the duality of womanhood and second chances in romance.
Jo, Amy, Mag, and Beth are the March sisters who have different hobbies and want different things out of their lives. The life of the March sisters isn’t an easy one when they lose their sister Beth to an illness and make a series of decisions.
Amy is in love with Laurie, her neighbor, who is in love with Jo, who is not in love with him. After a series of events that make them understand their true feelings, the love story between these three, along with the parallel character development of everyone involved, is delightful.
- Rating: 7.8/10

26. Love Actually
Love Actually revolves not around one or two but whole 8 couples. The stories are all linked in some ways or others, and this brings in the huge picture by the end of the movie.
But the plot itself is quite interesting in the way it deals with what love is for other people and how they find love in the most hopeless places at times. You can watch this movie with your partner to see how you define what love actually is for you.
- Rating: 7.6/10
- Starring: Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Thomas Brodie Sangster, Keira Knightly, Emma Thompson
27. Love, Rosie
Alex and Rosie are best friends who enjoy their life as friends until they have to face their feelings at the wrong times and when they are committed to someone else.
Don’t worry, no one cheats, but the whole movie gives a good build-up as to what could have been and how one can sensibly act when in love with their best friend.
Though life takes Rosie and Alex on different roads, they still find their way back to each other and give us (and themselves) the ending they deserve.
- Rating: 7.1/10
- Starring: Lily Collins, Sam Claflin
28. Main Hoon Na
A must-watch for its memorable plot and the two couples, Main Hoon Na, is a great romance action movie. The movie involves Major Ram Prasad, who promises his dying father, Brig. Shekhar said that he would take care of his stepbrother Lakshman and stepmother.
Coincidentally, the General’s daughter, Sanjana (who is Lakshman’s best friend and studies with him in the same college), also needs protection from terrorists, so, with these two missions overlapping, Ram sets out to Dehradun.
On this mission, not only does Ram fall in love with his chemistry teacher, Ms. Chandni, but he also finds a family with Lakshman and his mother though they are not aware of his true identity as the same love child of Brig.
Shekhar chose his wife and son. Lakshman, too, falls in love with Sanjana, though they have a few misunderstandings and arguments along the way.

- Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan, Amrita Rao
29. Mr. And Mrs. Smith
With the pairing of Angelina and Brad, Mr. and Mrs. Smith was a hit for its spy romance storyline. Jane and John were a passionate couple who had a marriage that was filled with more lies than truthful vows.
Both are unaware of their spouse being an assassin while they deal with their now boring everyday life in front of each other.
Each is oblivious to the fact that the other is working for an opposing agency and about to burst their bubble.
When a mission involving an assassination goes wrong for both parties, they come across the truth about each other and now have to eliminate the other for the “greater good.”
But all is not what it seemed when these two lovers turned enemies are targets of their agencies and are on the run and turn towards each other to survive.

30. Nitham Oru Vaanaam
You, too, like Arjun, our protagonist, may get annoyed about the abrupt ending of the love stories you were invested in without getting any answers or closure.

32. Pride And Prejudice
Original enemies to lovers, for me, Pride and Prejudice is a love story between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, who must overcome their pride and prejudice when it comes to matters of each other.
The Jane Austin book adapted movie shares the story of Elizabeth having a misfortune meeting with Mr. Darcy at a party that makes him look high and haughty to her and leaves her with a disagreement with him at every meeting later on with piling misunderstandings between them.
But, surprise, Mr. Darcy, unbeknownst to Elizabeth, has fallen in love with her. I’m sure we saw that hand flex scene twice just to feel his suppressed emotions and his awkward tortoise personality. And asks for her hand in marriage. He does.
While simultaneously insulting her family. Not the best, but the plot needed the tension in that scene. And boy was the tension sky-high. Never has a rejection been more deserved and swoon-worthy at the same time.
Fear not, after reflecting upon his actions and raising our standards of a man taking a rejection, Mr. Darcy gains not only Elizabeth’s love but also her father’s approval after a series of events.

33. Purple Hearts
A Netflix original romance movie about the fake marriage trope, Purple Hearts is about Cassie and Luke making a great pair who, despite their differences, are brought together by their circumstances.
Cassie is a diabetes patient who cannot afford insulin and proposes to Luke, who is a soldier in debt with a drug dealer, for a fake marriage.
Though they experience their highs and lows, Luke and Cassie cannot deny their attraction toward each other and their wish to turn this sham marriage into something real.
With a drug dealer on their back, the government that might jail them for their lies, and their own clashing personalities, these leads still bring out the feels with their acting and songs featured in the movie.

When two people with two parallel but ulterior motives meet up, there can be no doubt that lies are the foundation of the relationship rather than trust. And we all know that is not the best way to start any relationship.

36. Stardust
This fantasy romance is really one of a kind. Though the elements of magic and curses are an always used plot, falling for a literal star was a first. Stardust depicts the story of Tristan, a young man in love with his village’s most sought-after girl, Victoria.
But Victoria, not impressed by any of his gifts, asks him to get him a star. Thus, what was just a journey to get a star turns into a whole adventure for Tristan, who then finds true love.
Tristan crosses ‘the Wall’ that protects the village from magical creatures and enters the world of magic, where he meets Yvaine, who is an actual personified star.
From the point of dragging Yvaine to fulfill Victoria’s wish to save Yvaine from any and all harm that comes her way (which is a lot, in the form of 3 witch sisters) and also finding his rightful place as an heir, Tristan lives a very magical life filled with awe and love.

37. Hasee Toh Phasee
One can find love in the most wrong times and even in worse people. For example, in Hasee Toh Phasee, it is falling for your soon-to-be sister-in-law while you are preparing for your wedding. I know it sounds terrible, so let me clarify.
Nikhil is trying to avoid joining government services as per his father’s wishes and gets into business with not much luck. He meets Karishma, a beautiful girl, at a wedding, and they hit it off.
At the same wedding, he helps an unknown girl run away from the house, who he is unaware is Karishma’s younger sister Meeta.
Now, years later, with the couple dynamic being that of an on-and-off couple with the threats of break up always visible on the horizon, Karishma, now an actress, and Nikhil (still a struggling businessman) decide to get married.
For this, Karishma invites Meeta without her family knowing of Meeta’s arrival so as not to cause drama. She gives Nikhil the responsibility of keeping Meeta hidden from the family, but this just brings the two closer.
Torn between his loyalty to his fiancee and his blooming free love for Meeta, Nikhil decides to go forward with the wedding and sends away Meeta.
After a lot of family drama and huge crying and dancing sessions, the story unfolds with last-minute truths and letting go of your love for the betterment of everyone involved. (I’m not talking about Nikhil)
