Solo Leveling, one of the most popular action fantasy manhwa, is back with another season, two brand new side stories, which were already released on January 20, 2023, and an epilogue series which is scheduled to be released every Wednesday. Fans are already anticipating the next chapter.
Before we spill out any spoilers, we need to know that these new chapters are illustrated by Studio Redice in honor of Jang Sung Rak, also the founder, who passed away last year. The last chapter, which is chapter 179, concluded in December 2021 with an unexpected ending. So let’s continue the story.
Let’s start with a quick overview for new readers. The premise of Solo Leveling is that ten years ago, strange things began to happen in this world. Not only were some people given superpowers, but strange portals to other worlds began to appear as well.
So, basically, these people with godly abilities are classified as hunters and are ranked from E to S based on the power they gained upon their first awakening, with no means to naturally improve their rank after awakening.
To summarize, the portals that appeared contained dungeons packed with monsters of varying strengths, with rankings for each dungeon. Hunters are hired to clear monsters out of dungeons, not only to keep them from getting into the real world but also to gather treasures.
Sung Jinwoo, the main character, is classified E, which is considered weak, and he is the weakest of them all. However, after a certain event occurred inside this dungeon, Sung Jinwoo was not only given the opportunity to improve his rank but to continue leveling up his power. Jinwoo took advantage of this talent and began grinding.
So it’s kind of like a video game, and he’s the only one who can play it. He can obtain experience and level up his power by killing monsters, unlike every other hunter returning to dungeons, and no other hunter has this leveling ability. That’s how the title simplifies Solo Leveling.
Solo Leveling Chapter 182 Recap: Spoilers
The chapter starts with Jinchul confessing that he remembers seeing a shadow; the day that the suspect who surrendered himself disappeared, he saw the ant monster. He describes it as a monster because it was big and dark.
Sung Jinwoo has been running non stop since joining the track and field team, and all the other members have been unable to keep up with him. Nobody could believe that a junior like him could overcome the hardships of the seniors just like that.
Even Mr. Park watched him run and could see his shadow but wasn’t sure what it was. Jinwoo noticed him, and his shadow decided to erase his memory, but he wanted to observe first and wouldn’t make any move yet.
Jinchul believes his teacher, Mr. Park, and the monster he saw before his memory was erased have some connection. He is certain that the monster he saw and the monster the teacher saw are the same. So he decided to go to the school to investigate Jinwoo.
Jinchul was kind of hesitant to ask Jinwoo about the shadow monsters that he saw, as well as the ant that looked like an ant but had two legs. He was too awkward to ask. He thought nobody would believe him and would treat him as a lunatic for asking such questions.
But still, the former chairman of the hunter association, Woo Jinchul, visited the school and asked for Jinwoo. He showed him his drawing of the ant shadow, which was a great drawing, but of course, Jinwoo couldn’t say much, and they laughed it out of the case. But Jinchul remembers his past memories, even if it’s just a little.
