In this season finale, Benson, Rollins, Tutuola, and Velasco investigate a harrowing sexual assault case where a sneaky assailant and troubled victim are not cooperative, and the evidence is inconclusive. So, they must tie the loose ends to bring the culprit to justice. Without further ado, let’s begin!
Law & Order SVU Season 23 Episode 22 Recap
Tonight’s episode begins with Benson saying that Noah is doing well and that her career is doing well, but she wakes up at 4:00 a.m. feeling anxious and sad. She’s talking to her therapist about how much has changed last year. He brings up Stabler. She says she has no issues with intimacy. He advises her to either see if there is more with Stabler or move on.
Delia is at the station, a victim of domestic violence, and she is meeting with her counselor. Delia returns home, and as she opens the door, she calls the super and requests that the locks be changed. When she gets inside, she notices her husband Ty and informs him that he is not meant to be there. She tells him she’ll call the cops if he doesn’t leave, but he insists she won’t. He stands up and pursues her.
Chaos Ensues
Fin is outside at a café, playing a smartphone video game. Velasco is with Carisi as he plays some hoops. Returning to Benson, he comments to her that she is a role model for female police and that she has a good life and a great son. He says that he wants her to think about what she deserves, that she deserves to be happy.
Delia is outside with a bat in her hand, destroying a police cruiser; two officers, pistols drawn, pointing at her, emerge from the car. Rollins arrives and intervenes, calming Delia and ordering the officers to lay down their weapons. Rollins approaches Delia at the hospital and asks her to jail so Ty can’t close her.
Investigation
Benson informs Delia that she must remove Ty from her life. Rollins tells her that he will leave if they charge Ty with rape. The cops have his DNA and her criminal complaint filed in a rape kit. Ty files a not-guilty plea in court. After that, Ty’s lawyer claims it takes two to tango; bail is set at $50,000, he must wear an ankle bracelet, and he can only go from home to work.
Jail Inquiry
When Rollins visits Delia in jail, she says she’s OK and feels safe. They enter an interview room, and she says she has 1% and will get it. He wouldn’t let her go, grabbing her hair and dangling the cord in front of her. She entered the kitchen, snatched the knife off the kitchen table, and couldn’t get out. Her lawyer pushes her to accept a settlement. If they go to trial, she might get 15 years. Benson believes her lawyer is incompetent.
Carisi will wait 24 hours before finalizing a contract. After that, Benson goes to Forlini’s bar and talks with Barba; she thanks him for taking Delia’s case, and he tells her that Rollins called. Delia was found to have stabbed Ty in the back in court. Benson is on the stand, and she claims that a victim might be afraid for her life even if her attacker is not looking. Rollins is outraged when Carisi tells him that she requested Barber to defend Delia.
The End
Delia is on the stand and claims she felt confined and needed to get out. She reached for the knife out of fear. She heard him chuckling, and she knew if he turned around and saw her with the blade, he would kill her. Barber continues to resist, claiming that he is harassing her. Delia is crying and shaking, and Carisi asks when she knew her husband had died and how she felt about it. She claims she was content because he was no longer alive, and she was. They have a break.
Benson thanks Barba for defending Delia and remarks that she is doing well, unlike them. She tells him she requested him not to protect Wheatly, and he responds he is now dead. She claims to have known him for 23 three years and that he is unaware of her existence; this is not about him. She accuses him of betraying her. He promises to be there when she no longer feels betrayed by him. She tells him she misses him as well.
