Chicago PD Season 9 Episode 22 Recap
We begin the episode with Escano discovering what the cops were planning. They moved on a shipment they thought was drugs, but the driver set off to kill the cops following him. Fortunately, no one was killed by the bomb. Halstead and Upton were unharmed. They were knocked out for a minute, and the blast cut Upton’s face. Apart from that, they were fine. They were going to recover, whereas many of Escano’s victims never did. After learning about the bomb, Voight moved to get Anna off the street. He was concerned about her safety and wanted to get her to a safe location. And he dispatched patrol cars to pick up her child.
Anna was mainly concerned about Rafa, her son. After that, Voight assured her that her son was safe and drove Anna to the train station. The investigation determined that she lacked sufficient evidence to link Escano to the drug trade or cartels. Anna never received hard evidence. As a result, the ASA did not want to obtain a warrant against Escano, and she was ready to drop the case when Voight threatened her. Voight told the ASA that he could either ruin her career or get her the warrant he needed to raid Escano’s stash houses.

Warrant Granted
Voight received his warrant. They moved on to Escano’s enterprises. They discovered all of the money from the drug trade and gathered evidence of Escano’s crimes, but they also found Escano. He was located on the floor, stabbed and bleeding to death. His assailant stabbed him in the privates as well. Voight didn’t need to be told who had attacked Escano. Escano even claimed that Anna stabbed him. Voight moved quickly to seize control of the situation. He directed his people to handle the bookcase, attempting to contact Anna.
Anna Nowhere To Be Found
Anna didn’t answer the phone. The cops outside her safe house claimed she had left without their knowledge. Anna assassinated someone. Voight had promised to protect her, so he attempted to conceal what she had done. Voight visited Anna’s home. He cleaned it up and removed any blood he found. He also excused himself for his team. Anna is a credible threat, according to his team. She was most likely the one who murdered Escano. Voight argued with them about how he got Anna and the importance of continuing to work on the case.
Wrong Focus?
At one point, the ASA he had treated earlier asked why he wasn’t focusing on a murder. She wanted him to make a case for the abolition of Los Treminos. She aspired to be the prosecutor who brought down a cartel-affiliated gang. She tried to make a career because that’s what Voight promised her after threatening her with a warrant. It was difficult to bury the mounting evidence that Anna had murdered Escano.
Escano was only killed because he tried to attack her. Voight didn’t think anyone would believe Anna’s story because she had attempted to castrate Escano. Voight also figured it wouldn’t work because Anna went straight to Escano. Anna received police protection when she abandoned it and went on the hunt for Escano.
Dramatic Conclusion
Sure, they later discovered evidence of Escano’s ties to the cartels. They were cleaning up the drugs and closing down stash houses. Voight’s team was responsible for all of the significant arrests. He missed it because he looked for Anna, whom he eventually found. He tracked her down. He was about to let her go when she was involved in a car accident. The other vehicle dialed 911. Voight attempted to step in. When he tried to tell Anna that she needed to come in right away, she pulled out a gun. Voight tried to converse with her. He was about to persuade her to put down the gun when she was startled by something at the scene. She shot him. She had no intention of shooting him.
However, Upton was present during the shooting. Anna then shot her. Voight was shot in the shoulder, allowing him to move towards Anna and hold her hand. Even as they were transported in an ambulance, he kept her hand in his. And he kept her writing even after she died. There was nothing Voight could do for Anna, but with her gone and the way she went out, people would start asking about Voight.
