Written by Hikaru Sugii, this show involves solving cases and crimes just like Detective Conan. 7. Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace
Inspired by the works of the legendary author Ranpo Edogawa, Ranpo Kitan revolves around Yoshio Kobayashi and Kogorou Akechi. Yoshio somehow finds himself responsible for the brutal death of his teacher, although he has no memory of how he ended up doing it. He swears he is innocent, and his friend Souji Hashiba believes him.
Solving the mystery gets easier once Kogorou Akechi joins in. He and Yoshio set out on the journey to find the exact causes behind the terrifying situation.

8. ID: Invaded
This anime takes place in a world where a unique development called the Mizuhanome System exists. This system can allow access to people’s minds and subconscious. It’s put to good use in identifying criminals based on their mind’s fragments called cognition particles that they leave behind on the scene.
However, To use the system this way, the user should have committed a similar crime. Akihito Narihisago, a former top detective, is sent to jail for murder. While incarcerated, he helps the department by finding criminals since he can use the cognition particles. While investigating each case, he sees that there’s a much darker reality at play.

He ends up meeting a strange girl named Victorique de Blois, who seems to be able to predict futures.

11. The Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok:
This anime from 2003, written by Akura Kinoshita, follows the story of the Norse god, Loki. He gets exiled to the human world in the form of a child, and the only way he will be able to return is by collecting the evil dark aura that people harbor in their hearts.
Loki comes up with a way to do this without suspicion by becoming a detective. He starts an agency along with Yamina and Mayura. Over time he gets better at collecting the aura, but new challenges arise in the form of other Norse gods targeting him.

Ikkou Aoki is the main protagonist who recently takes up a job at section 9, a national research and investigation laboratory that uses the brain scanner for solving criminal cases. Although he feels reluctant to use the device, he has no choice but to delve deeper into the brains of these criminals.

Revolving around the life of Ayumu Narumi, Spiral is a mystery and thriller anime. 22. Pluto:
Pluto is inspired by Tetsuwan Atomu, also known as Astro Boy, a series that used to air in 1963. It follows the story of Gesicht, a detective who deals with both robot and human cases. He sees an increase in the number of murders involving both these entities and tries to find any evidence that could suggest who the killer is.
As he comes across more murders, Gesicht realizes that these murders seem to be the work of a robot and not any human. It makes the situation more complicated, as the city had not seen any robots being that way for almost a decade.

Translating to Literary Stray Dogs, this anime is centered around a group called Armed Detective Agency. Atsushi Nakajima gets involved with the agency after he stops Osamu Dazai from killing himself. He finds many others like him in the group and starts working with them.

One day he ends up being accused of killing someone he was familiar with. He travels back into the past this time as well, but instead of it being a few minutes earlier, he travels almost 18 years back.

A demon named Neuro Nougami comes to earth seeking more mysteries, as he had gotten tired of those in the demon world. He meets Yako and agrees to help her find the reason behind her father’s death, but only if she works with him in solving various other cases from the human world.
Humans who commit crimes leak out negative energy, which is what Neuro feeds on. Working together would be beneficial for both of them, and Yako soon sees things falling into place once the unexpected duo works alongside each other.

30. The Detective Is Already Dead:
Based on a novel by Nigoju, this anime is centered on Kimihiko Kimizuka’s life. He seems to have the unnatural ability to attract troubles that often lead him to dangerous situations. Being some sort of magnet, he once is targeted by the underworld and made to hijack a plane.
While it is happening, he comes across Siesta, an exceptionally gifted detective who agrees to help him out of the predicament. In exchange, she asks him to be her assistant, and although he is reluctant at first, he works alongside her for three years until she suddenly passes away.
Trying to get back to his normal life, he starts living his life normally, but as always, troubles get back to him, and his life is once again going to be full of chaos. Tantei wa Mou Shindeiru has certain romance elements as well.

31. Psychic Detective Yakumo:
Yakumo Saitou is an introvert, but there’s something unique about him. Through his left red eye, he can spot any supernatural being. Haruka Ozawa, a student that studies in the same school as Yakuma, fears she might be next when one of her friends gets mysteriously possessed. She asks Yakuma for help, and this starts the journey of both these students working together in solving these dead case files.

34. Tantei Opera Milky Holmes:
Being a detective comedy, this anime is based in a world where chosen people are born with an ability called “Toys.” These people could use this ability for either evil or good. Where there’s good, there’s always bad, and crimes increase when more and more of these special humans start using Toys for evil purposes.
This creates the need for a detective agency that would consist of Special people with Toys that would use their powers for good. That’s where the agency run by Opera Kobayashi comes into the picture. 36. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni kai:
A calm village life always sounds good, and that’s what Keiichi Maebara had dreamed of. He moves into a tiny village and soon becomes good friends with his classmates, mainly Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika. He finds them fun to be with but always feels as though they’re hiding something.
The annual festival arrives at his village, but the excitement soon turns to anxiety when Keiichi finds out that the village has had many murders recently, and they’re all somehow related to the annual festival. He asks his friends about it, but they choose to remain silent, making his paranoia increase even more. He is now on his own in a terrifying village and has to escape it at any cost.

37. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka
This anime is more politically themed and follows the story of the group ACCA, a body that’s appointed by the King of Dowa to increase the peace between the 13 states of the kingdom. Things stay calm for a long time, with not many crimes or corruption.
Word gets to the ACCA that a Coup d’état has been brewing in the states; hearing this, the national body asks Jean Otus to look into the 13 states and see if the rumors are true. The anime has an intricate plot and portrays elements of mystery exceptionally well.

38. Moriarty The Patriot:
Inspired by Ryoksuke Takeuchi’s manga, the anime took place in the 19th century. He comes across two orphans who share similar aims, those of bringing down the class system.
He asks his father to adopt them, and they start plotting against those in power. Over the years, Albert gives William everything he would need to make their dreams come true, including his father’s wealth and his brother’s name. They work successfully until a detective named Sherlock Holmes comes into the picture.
Sherlock and William become good friends, all while he is unaware that the cause of the mysterious murders was William all along.

Cat’s eye is a cafe run by three sisters, Hitomi Kisugi, Rui, and Ai. They seem to be normal citizens at first, but what no one knows is that these sisters have been stealing portraits that belonged to their dead father. They organize each crime with perfect planning and carry it out, leaving no trace of themselves.
Although they are skilled in doing these activities, their work is made easier when Hitomi starts using the reach Toshio has since he works as a police officer. He is oblivious to what happens in the café, even when Hitomi secretly sends out cards suggesting her next robbery.

Juuzou Inui is the protagonist of the anime. Juuzou is an extender as well, and although he was a soldier in the past, he just wants to live a peaceful life working in one of the extender repair shops. He agrees to it, but while helping the child, he finds the treacherous doings the corporations have involved themselves in.

No clue or evidence is seen at the scene that could suggest who the killer was. The rest of the residents now investigate the murder, and they uncover all sorts of secrets in the process.

She asks him to make her his assistant, and the duo starts solving new cases each day.

47. Umineko: When They Cry:
More of a thriller, Umineko follows the story of the Ushiromiya family. They hear the news in their head, Ushiromiya Kinzou has fallen ill and has only a few days left to live. They show up at his house on Rokkenjima island to discuss his inheritance.
However, for Kinzou, the main concern was that he wanted to meet the love of his life, who had passed away years ago. He learns black magic secretly and finds a way to bring “Golden Witch” back to life. When his family arrives at his house, he performs the magic and brings her into existence.
The members are trapped with the witch named Beatrice as the island experiences a typhoon. What’s more is that mysterious murders start taking place in the mansions, causing everyone to panic and struggle for their lives.

Shouko Nogami, his ex-girlfriend, comes right behind him as she wants to know the reason why her brother broke up with her. The two women don’t get along well.
