While we’ve seen many k-pop idols being friendship goals with their friends or fellow member, the 97-liner of k-pop, on the other side, is something else. The group of friends consists of some of the most popular male k-pop idols born in 1997. Initially, the group was supposed to stay a secret, but nothing really hides from the eyes of the k-pop stans. Starting out with just two friends, the group now has a total of eight members. And here’s everything you need to know about them!

But now, it has become one of the high-profile groups that everyone wishes they could be a part of. The ’97 liners of K-pop consist of BTS’ Jungkook, GOT7’s Yugyeom and BamBam, SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu, The8 and DK, ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo, and NCT’s Jaehyun.

The group is known to start with Yugyeom and Jungkook as the two’s friendship is very popular among the k-pop stans. But with the two socializing more and more, it is now a talented affair.
NCT’s Jaehyun
Jeong Yoon Oh is popular with her stage name Jarhyun as a member of the boy group NCT under SM Entertainment. The 97-liner’s birthday is on February 14. Born in Seoul, Jae moved to the States and lived in Connecticut until he was 10 years old. Coming back to South Korea, the idol went on to audition for SM Entertainment. Originally, the idol was scouted by an agent on the street by his high school in 2012. The idol had to stay back in school because of his cleaning duties. And as soon as he came out, he was greeted by an agent looking for him.
Introduced as a member of SM Rookies in 2013, Jae also went on to make his pre-debut as a host for MBC’s Show Champion alongside Doyoung. After four years of training, the idol was all set to make his official idol debut. Although he wanted to be a rapper but was impressed by his vocal skills, he ended up being the main vocalist. In 2016, Jae went on to make his debut as a part of NCT U. And later on also made his debut with sub-unit NCT 127. Just like his best friend Jungkook, Jae is also an alumnus of the infamous Seoul Performing Arts High School.

ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo
Lee Dong Min is popular among his fans all over the world with his stage name Cha Eun Woo. The 97-liner’s birthday is on March 30. The k-pop idol hails from Gunpo, Gyeonggi, South Korea. Cha Eun Woo is one of the most popular idols turned actors in the industry. Known for his perfect visuals, the idol is very popular globally. Originally, Eun Woo dreamt of going into law and becoming a judge. He was good at studies and even ranked in the top 3 representatives during his middle school.
Talking about the story of how the idol was casted, the idol revealed that it was during a school festival. Eun Woo was a part of a performance of the event Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend. Spotted at the stage, the scouting agent went on to find Eun Woo and asked him to audition in front of the school toilet. Joining the agency in 2013, the idol went on to train for four years. Becoming the fourth trainee to be introduced as a part of the boy group, Eunwoo went on to make his debut with ASTRO in 2016. SEVENTEEN’s DK
Lee Seok Min is popular among his fans with his stage name DK and Dokyeom. The 97-liner’s birthday is on February 18. Hailing from Gyeonggi-do, the idol is also an alumnus of the infamous Seoul High School of Performing Arts. Dreaming of becoming an idol, DK worked on his vocals a lot. With the help of mutual contact, the idol was able to secure an audition and went on to audition for Pledis Entertainment. His hard work paid off as the idol was accepted as a trainee in 2012.
He went on to train for over two years and seven months before his debut. Becoming the last member to join the boy group SEVENTEEN, now the idol is also known as Seventeen’s Happy Virus. As a member of SEVENTEEN, DK serves as the main vocalist of the group. On December 23, 2021, DK went on to make his solo debut with the song ‘You’re My Christmas’. He also played the role of King Arthur in the musical “Xcalibur”. Recently the idol was in the headlines as he had launched a private corporation RoaD.K.

SEVENTEEN’s THE8
Xu Minghao, or Seo Myung Ho, is popular among his fans with his stage name THE8. The 97-liner’s birthday is on November 7. Hailing from Haicheng, Liaoning, China, the idol is one of the Chinese members of the boy group SEVENTEEN. Before becoming an idol trainee at Pledis Entertainment in 2013, the idol used to perform b-boying in China. Ever since he started middle school, the idol was obsessed with breakdancing. After being a dancer at Beijing Contemporary Music Academy, the idol was discovered by the agency during one of his performances. Training for a year and 5 months, he’s the only member to have the shortest training period out of all of SEVENTEEN members.
The8 serves as the lead dancer, sub vocalist, and sub rapper of the group. Recently, he also served as a dance mentor on season 2 of “Idol Producer”. He was also a part of the Chinese show “The Collaboration” along with fellow Seventeen members Jun and Samuel. With SEVENTEEN’s recent comeback, THE8 kind of got into a controversy because of his outfit. As the idol was wearing a colorful see-through shirt in the music video, the outfit didn’t meet the broadcasting guidelines of the live performances. The idol revealed that he wouldn’t be wearing the outfit again for the live performances.

SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu
Kim Min Gyu is popular with his stage name Mingyu. The 97-liner’s birthday is on April 6. Mingyu is one of those k-pop idols with striking and charming visuals that can be spotted from a distance. He’s also the tallest member in the boy group with a height of 6ft 1 inch. The idol was scouted by an agent when he was on his way back home from school. Joining Pledis Entertainment in 2011, Mingyu went on to train for over four years. In 2016, the idol finally made his debut with the boy group SEVENTEEN.
In the boy group, he serves as the rapper, sub-vocalist, visual, and face of the group. The idol is not limited to just performing on stage but also has a knack for styling and fashion. He’s also the in-charge of hairstyling for his fellow group members. The idol is known as one of the multitalented k-pop idols as he is well versed in photography, cooking, cross-stitching, drawing, and race car driving. When it comes to doing the house chores and being the handyman, Mingyu is also good at handling those matters as well.

GOT7’s Yugyeom
Kim Yu Gyeom is popular among his fans with his stage name Yugyeom. The 97-liner’s birthday is on November 17. Born in Seoul, South Korea, the idol lived most of his childhood in Saudi Arabia. As his family moved back home, he lived in Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The idol is an alumnus of Hanlim Arts High School as a Street Dance major. Since he mean in elementary school, Yugyeom loved to copy choreographies from the internet. His cousin, who was a dance academy instructor, asked him to attend the academy.
One of the fellow instructors who also worked at JYP Entertainment spotted the idol. Becoming a trainee in early 2011, the idol went on to make his debut with GOT7 in 2014. Along with being the maknae of the boy group, the idol is also the tallest member of GOT7. The idol has also revealed that he was a bit jealous of fellow GOT7 members and now best friend BamBam because he was cute. Currently, Yugyeom is signed to AOMG Entertainment. He also went on to make his solo debut on June 11, 2021, with the album “Point of View: U” and title track ‘I Want U Around (Feat. DeVita)‘.

GOT7’s BamBam
Kunpimook Bhuwakul is popular among his fans with his stage name Bambam. The 97-liner’s birthday is on May 2. BamBam is one of the most popular k-pop idols hailing from Thailand as well. A huge fan of the singer and actor Rain, BamBam dreamt of becoming a k-pop idol like him. When BamBam’s mother got to know about a competition happening in the city and the prize being a dinner with Rain, she wanted her son to not let go of this opportunity. While her older son couldn’t participate because of his injury, BamBam, the younger son, did.
He ended up winning the competition as well as getting through the auditions for JYP Entertainment. At the company, the idol also met Blackpink member LISA during her time as a JYP trainee. Together, the two were a part of the dance crew called We Zaa Cool. The idol went on to compete in the survival program WIN: Who is Next pre-debut with fellow members. In 2014, BamBam went on to make his debut with GOT7. He also agreed that he used to be jealous of fellow member/best friend Yugyeom because he was tall. BTS’ Jungkook
Jeon Jeong Kuk, aka Jungkook, is also known as the golden maknae and is a member of the boy group BTS. Hailing from Busan, South Korea, is also the alumnus of the infamous Seoul Performing Arts High School. Originally, the idol dreamt of becoming a badminton player, but life had other plans for him. From getting eliminated in the audition round, Jungkook went on to be scouted by JYP Entertainment, FNC Entertainment, and Starship Entertainment. But in the end, the idol chose Bighit Entertainment because of fellow member RM.
Joining Bighit Entertainment in 2011, the idol went on to train at the company for two years. During his trainee period, the idol also went to Los Angeles to train with their choreographer Son Sung Deuk. In 2013, Jungkook went on to make his debut as a member of BTS. Currently, the idol is part of one of the biggest k-pop groups in the world. Along with being the main vocalist and the dancer for the boy group, the idol has also written some heart-touching lyrics and has some amazing solo tracks as well. Jungkook is also known for his composing and photography skills. The idol is also a black belt in Taekwondo.
