We all have watched at least one anime where we felt that a side character deserves more screen time. More so, they deserve their own show. Some anime characters have left their mark on the fans, and the fans cannot get enough of them. Protagonists are generally the center of the show, but many times the side characters are the ones who steal the show. These supporting characters don’t get much screen time. Even many of their best moments are not shown, leaving us disappointed.
In many anime, some deserving side characters do get the spotlight, but most of the time, it is alongside the main character. Many of these side characters have the potential to stand on their own and deliver. The character arcs of some of these characters are written so underwhelmingly that they fail to live up to the hype.
Today we’ll be looking at some anime characters who deserve their own spin-off show.
Itachi Uchiha
Every anime fan will agree on this. Itachi Uchiha is easily one of the best anime characters created to date. Itachi was only shown a couple of times in Naruto, while he made his full debut in Naruto Shippuden. He lived a life of despair and grief. At the age of 13, he reluctantly had to kill his clan, including his parents. Itachi also had some pretty intense fights against Sasuke, Kabuto, Nagato, Kakashi, and a short but worth watching fight against Naruto. Although episodes 451-458 of Naruto Shippuden were based on Itachi (named Itachi’s story), that is still not enough for us fans.
Itachi’s whole life was dedicated to Konoha, and this just shows how big of a sacrifice he made. Fans often wonder what Itachi could have had unlocked eternal Mangekyou Sharingan or the Rinnegan. These questions might never be answered, but every anime fan knows who Itachi is, what Itachi was, and will continue to love him forever.
L
L Lawliet is one of the most intriguing anime characters to be ever written. L comes from the well-known show Deathnote. After Kira is on a killing spree, he takes up the case and uses his deduction skills to discover the identity of Kira. While investigating, he becomes very suspicious of Light Yagami and determines to prove him as Kira. He uses an alias by ‘Ryuzaki’ to maintain his cover. His real name is never revealed in either anime or manga, this shows how mysterious as a character he was.
L comes very close to discovering who Kira is. Soon Light manipulates Rem into writing L’s name in the Deathnote. Thus, L dies. L’s death is the most saddening moment of Deathnote, leaving all the fans disheartened. All the fans worldwide want a series solely based on L to watch his early detective days.
Roy Mustang
He is a very popular character from one of the best anime series Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Mustang is an Alchemist for the State Military of Amestris as well as the superior of Edward Elric. His ability to create fire using alchemy has earned him the title of ‘Flame Alchemist’. He wanted to become the next leader of Amestris. Although he couldn’t become the next leader, Hiromu Arakawa has assured the fans he will make the next leader.
His battles wouldn’t be any less entertaining than those of the Elric brothers either since he’d be the perfect arrogant protagonist who deep down cares for everyone. Some fans even believe that he’s stronger than the protagonist Alphonse Eric.
Hisoka Morow
Hisoka is one of the most popular characters from Hunter x Hunter. He is shown in the series right from the first arc i.e. the Hunter Exam arc. His character is a unique and mysterious one leaving fans puzzled by his every move. At times he is shown helping the protagonists (Gon and Killua), while other times, he is fighting them.
The Hunter x Hunter manga is on an indefinite hiatus, so we can expect to know more about Hisoka in the future. Still, fans have been calling out to the Madhouse Studios to produce an OVA for Hisoka. Moreover, fans want the OVA to depict the fight between Hisoka and Chrollo and further Hisoka’s hunt for Chrollo and him killing the members of Phantom Troupe. In saying this, I speak for every Hunter x Hunter fan that we want an OVA specifically based on Hisoka.

Minato Namikaze
Minato is another name in this list from the Naruto series. All those who have watched Naruto will agree with me on this one. Minato was never shown in the Naruto series (2002), while he was teased a lot in Naruto Shippuden till he was shown in episode 168 titled ‘the Fourth Hokage’. Just when Naruto was about to release the nine tails, Minato appeared, and all the fans lost it. Minato is a very strong character as he took on nine tails all by himself. Minato was shown quite a few times in the show, but that is not enough given his fan following and his caliber.
We saw Minato’s fight against Obito (both in the war and during Naruto’s birth), his confrontation with the Raikage, and a few more times. One of Minato’s best moments was in the 3rd Great Ninja War when Konoha’s forces were cornered, and Minato was called to their rescue. A Konoha ninja says we’ll be seeing Konoha’s Yellow Flash in action, don’t blink for a second. What happened afterward was never shown for all we know Minato defeated an army of 1000 soldiers all by himself. Scenes like this are what we all want to witness in a Minato spin-off series.

Rem
The main character from Re: Zero is Subaru, but without a doubt, Rem is the one who stole the spotlight. Take out Subaru from the show, and it’s Rem who’ll control the whole show. She has served Subaru ever since they met and has proven to be his most loyal companion. She is a goofy, energetic, and perfect anime girl. Her special abilities, including healing magic and Huma, make her a very powerful character.
Fans were disappointed to not see much of Rem in the 2nd season of the series. Another show solely based on Rem would be the perfect thing one can ask for. We’re eagerly waiting for the next season, which seems like a long way to go. Hopefully, before that, Studio Puyukai gives a Rem spin-off series.
Tatsumaki
Tatsumaki, aka Tornado of Terror, is a fan-favorite character from One Punch Man. One Punch Man is an anime where the main character is overpowered. The series features a number of heroes alongside Saitama. One of those heroes has left an impact on us like no one else. Tatsumaki is the S-Class Rank 2 hero of the Hero Association. Ever since she was shown, fans have been wanting more of her.
She is no doubt very powerful but is also hilariously funny. She will make an excellent comedic protagonist. Everyone wants an anime with an overpowered main character. Tatsumaki has become more popular than Saitama. She even makes fun of Saitama and calls him and Genos names, which was funny. Even many fans say that she is more interesting and is much more fun than Saitama and would make for a very fun main character.

Shota Aizawa
Eraserhead or also known as Shota Aizawa from My Hera Academia, is one of the most underrated characters in the show. Everyone wants to know the mysterious past of the very famous Eraserhead and what he did before becoming a hero. Although a spin-off manga series by the name My Hero Academia: Vigilantes shed the light on Eraserhead, fans want to see it animated.
The spin-off shows his struggle to cope with the death of his best friend, Shirakumo. This is what led him to go solo mode and become a hero to be able to save everyone. He isolates himself after Shirakumo’s death, vowing to become strong to take on any enemy.
Levi Ackerman
Humanity’s strongest soldier makes this list. Levi has been a pivotal character in Attack on Titan since the show started. Although Levi is not a Titan, he is still one of the most feared characters in the AoT universe. He almost killed Zeke singlehandedly during the 3rd season and has not given us any reason to dislike him.
Levi has got a spin-off series in the form of an OVA of his own by the name Attack on Titan No Regrets. But this OVA contained only 2 episodes and didn’t show much. It only portrays Levi and his friends trying to harm Erwin. What we fans want is a series where we want to see how Levi became Humanity’s strongest soldier how his and Erwin’s relationship got better over time.
There are many characters we might have missed, feel free to tell us which character deserves to be on this list.
