Adrenaline junkies all over the world are rejoicing, having landed the perfect opportunity to grab their gear and let go as BBC’s brand new historical drama, SAS: Rogue Heroes, is all set to hit their television screens next week on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
The new series is brought to us by no other than the creators of the British crime drama blockbuster Peaky Blinders and features the real-life stories of the fearless heroes in the Special Air Services, an elite British military unit formed during the Second World War.
Such an organized force was created to carry out special operations such as covert surveillance, hostage rescue, and close-combat fighting. As such, the tales surrounding the infamous trained specialists under SAS’s banner were so outrageous that they had to be somewhat toned down for television.
SAS: Rogue Heroes Season 1 Episode 1 Preview
The debut episode for SAS: Rogue Heroes is set in the backdrop of spring 1941 when the British Army is on the brink of losing the war against Germany and the Axis powers, both of whom are fighting to take control of North Africa.
In the thick of this setback, frustration finds an eccentric young officer serving with 8 Commandos, Lieutenant David Stirling, who is told to stand down after consecutive failed operations. He could not help but find faults in the military command and the way in which it had been handling the current strategy.
This is something shared by Lieutenant John ‘Jock’ Lewes, who is currently fighting under heavy bombardment in the city of Tobruk that has been besieged, as well as Lieutenant Robert Blair ‘Paddy’ Mayne, who is currently behind the bars of a military prison.
But detained Lt. Lewes has a grand plan that he is eager to discuss. He thinks that Rommel had made a mistake by moving too fast as his supply line is longer than is safe. This makes the coastal airfields vulnerable to an enemy attack.

Lewes’s solution to this dilemma is to parachute some units of men to attack enemy forces, but not into the sea where such a move is expected but from the desert where they will wield the element of surprise. He shares this idea with Sterling and gets a nod.
But the only problem is that they must prove that the idea of a parachute drop in the middle of the desert is a sound one in order to get approval for their mission. And so they set off with classic rogue bravado and ingenuity, jump training and getting a plane for their first attempt at jumping from 30,000 feet in the sky.
But when the jump goes unexpectedly awry, will their plan fall at the first hurdle itself?
SAS: Rogue Heroes Season 1 Plot
Based on the book of the same name written by Ben Macintyre, the plot of SAS: Rogue Heroes follows David Stirling, an eccentric young officer who is hospitalized in Cairo after a training exercise gone wrong during the Second World War.
In his boredom, he begins thinking about how the adopted war methods were wrong and come up with a plan to radicalize traditional commando units. Stirling fights to obtain permission to form, recruiting a small unit of undercover soldiers who are among the brightest, boldest and toughest in the military.
These rogues are more rebels than they are soldiers and are every bit as complicated, flawed, and reckless as they are astonishingly brave and heroic. The perfect combination to wreak havoc behind enemy lines.
