Reservation Dogs, the show developed by Sterling Harjo and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi brings together a great Native American cast with great and fun stories told from young adult’s perspectives for our enjoyment. Just as the Dogs are coming of age, their hormones, their desires for group identification, and wishes to get out of town are expressed with more intensity.
This episode shows us how rushing into things and the high expectations teenagers put into things like sex come from peer pressure and hook-up culture. With each passing episode, we see how well-written the characters are and how well they are interwoven into such a good story that manages to fill us with laughs and deep thoughts. Now without any further ado, let’s begin covering this episode.
Reservation Dogs Season 2 Episode 5 Recap
Rita, Teenie, Natalie, and Bev travel over the weekend to attend the annual conference of Indian Health Services. At the conference, the women hope to have casual sex (they call it “snag”), and Rita has her sights set on Sam, one of the speakers. At the pool, they become close. Later, when she admits that she has always wanted to visit New York, he offers to take her to his favorite spot there.
Teenie, Rita, and the other partygoers prepare for the event by dancing to the song that Cookie led them in. After that, they pass out. They begin discussing how they all transformed from children to women overnight while intoxicated and high. Everybody anticipated that they would be conventional Indian women.

Casual Sex
All but Teenie. Rita claims that because she left them after Cookie died, she is unaware of their struggles. Teenie leaves angrily. Rita gathers her courage to approach Bev; Natalie and Sam decide to begin their rounds of casual sex. When she sees him with a younger woman, she turns around but doesn’t see him yank her hand away.
Later, Rita and Teenie cross paths in the restroom. She claims that a younger woman attacked Sam. Teenie observes that if you’re over 25, men won’t even look at you in the city. Rita says, “I don’t understand. Everyone discusses respecting women. Teenie imitates the matriarchs, “You’re beautiful matriarchs.”
Fast Food & Low Expectations
Except that nobody is doing anything for us. Rita then admits to Teenie that she is unaware of her struggles. But from her vantage point, she appears to be doing well. Teenie, however, desires Rita’s possessions. They both yearn for the past when people could sit on the bed and watch TV together and weren’t expected to be perfect. Sam waits at the bar for a while, probably hoping Rita will arrive. She never does because she and Teenie watch TV together and eat fast food in bed.
