Deadpool 3 is finally confirmed to be happening in the MCU. But the only problem was that Deadpool is a Rated R company, and Disney, which owns MCU, tends to always keep things family-friendly. But this problem was also solved because Disney knows Deadpool is a profitable movie franchise, and being Rated R is one of the main reasons behind it. But Why Is Deadpool Rated R?
R-rated comic book films like Logan and Joker have succeeded so well recently because they deviated from the norm. These films came with harsh violence and difficult topics to shake things up in an ocean of PG-13 superhero movies. But the amount of R-rated adaptations of comic books has grown significantly since the original Deadpool movie’s box office success.
R-rated comic book films will soon become the new standard. Some fans have praised this as a victory because R ratings give directors more creative freedom and allow NSFW comics to be adapted for the screen.
Why Is Deadpool Rated R?
An R rating may significantly reduce the number of viewers who will be able to or ready to pay money to see Deadpool, but it still appears to be a win for the movie as a whole. Moreover, Deadpool is a character with the mouth of someone who doesn’t give an F, so an R rating is probably required to accurately reflect the purity of the comic book character.
The Deadpool films have been both produced and starred in by Ryan Reynolds, who also took the decision to make the movies with the goal of an R rating during filming. This rating intention led to a significantly smaller movie budget, as producers no longer expected as many people to see the film. Since comic books were initially intended for children, this completely excludes the young adult market—unless they have a very very cool parent who might take their kids to an R-rated movie.
Ryan Reynolds certainly lived up to his most well-known moniker, the Merc With A Mouth, with a stream of cuss words that have so far been entirely absent from superhero films. He swears when he talks to the antagonists, when he talks to himself, and when he tells the audience what happened.
Although I’m excited that Deadpool will be swearing, I think I’m most looking forward to the violence in the upcoming film. That could make me sound weird, but Deadpool is a killer without remorse. Most superhero films feature rather mild violence, but Deadpool isn’t hesitant to shoot and cut his way through opponents. Instead of Wolverine’s occasionally awkward use of his lethal claws in the X-Men movies, I’m hoping for brutal, brutal violence when he comes with Deadpool in Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 3 Will Also Be An Rated R Movie In MCU
Kevin Feige has announced that an R-rated Deadpool 3 movie set in the MCU is now in production. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will enter the Avengers universe despite Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox, quickly ending the existing “Pool” cinematic universe and opening the door for an MCU reboot. Deadpool will be able to use his most valuable superpower, the power to break the fourth wall, to find a clever way to fit himself into a new brand and fictional universe; however, it is unclear how this will be handled.
While the introduction of an R-rated movie in the typically PG-13 MCU is somewhat unexpected, recreating Wade Wilson’s on-screen exploits without Reynolds would have been a fool’s game. A PG-13 rating would have brought ‘Pool right back to his terrible X-Men Origins introduction, and Disney was never going to leave a franchise as famous as Deadpool alone after investing $71.3 billion in a studio.
Additionally, Feige did say that Deadpool 3 was the only R-rated MCU film currently in development, so it will be an exception for the time being. And this is a wise decision since the worst thing Marvel could currently do with Deadpool creates a norm for R-rated movies.
Keeping Reynolds in the character of Deadpool and continuing his immensely popular solo series from the Fox studio is a no-brainer for Feige. However, it does create a special difficulty for Deadpool 3. The Merc with a Mouth will need to justify his decision to transfer franchises as a result of a business merger without confusing casual viewers. Feige and Reynolds surely have something fantastic in the store.
