The Blood of Dawnwalker was designed as a third-person RPG from the beginning, but developer Rebel Wolves briefly considered taking its combat in a very different direction. In an interview with GameRader+ published on October 8, 2026, director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz revealed that the team considered an isometric combat system before deciding that a third-person perspective better suited the game’s story, character customization, and real-time battles.
Tomaszkiewicz explained that keeping the protagonist visible was particularly important because RPGs allow players to customize their characters with different clothing, weapons, and other equipment. A closer third-person camera lets players continuously see those changes rather than viewing their character from a more distant isometric perspective.

The decision also influenced how The Blood of Dawnwalker approaches combat. Rather than creating a system where players simply watch impressive animations after pressing buttons, Rebel Wolves wanted players to feel directly involved in every encounter.
Tomaszkiewicz said the team’s goal was to make players feel that they were “in the center of the combat.” This philosophy led the developers toward real-time combat that requires players to observe enemies, react to attacks, and actively learn the fighting system.
The director also explained that the third-person perspective supports this approach by keeping the player’s character at the center of the action. The system ultimately became a major part of The Blood of Dawnwalker’s identity, combining character-focused storytelling with responsive real-time combat.
