But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and explore deeper into the depths of the episode without further ado!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 2 Recap
Nyota, Cadet Uhura is invited to a supper with the rest of the crew in Pike’s quarters, where she admits that she is concerned about her future in Starfleet because she merely enlisted to escape the agony of her parent’s deaths. The Enterprise crew attempts to modify the path of a comet slated to kill all of the people of a desert planet. But a force field protects it. Uhura joins a crew that travels to the surface of a comet and discovers that it listens to music.
A Challenge Lies Ahead
A spacecraft of “shepherds” escorting the comet positions itself between it and the Enterprise; they believe it is an ancient arbiter of life known as M’hanit. Enterprise distracts them long enough for Spock to change the comet’s direction, but he does so with fair difficulty as it requires lots of calculations.
As it passes by the planet, it releases water vapor into the atmosphere, improving the conditions for life. Uhura decodes music from the comet, indicating that it was expecting this interference, while Pike ponders the comet’s origins and whether this was more than a coincidence. He also considers the cadets’ lives for whom he is doomed to die.
A Class M Planet!
The USS Enterprise is researching an ancient comet that appears to be on the verge of striking an M Class planet in the Persephone system. Thus, a collision would wipe out the non-warp capable Deleb who reside there. Pike and his friends are determined to find a way to deviate the comet’s route. When they realize it’s not a comet, they’ll face a threat from the Shepherds. They’re a highly sophisticated species whose entire existence is built on preventing anything from interfering with their so-called “arbiter.” Which brings life or devastation in its path.
