Master of car restoration Derek Bieri will return with an all-new season of the Roadworthy Rescues series. After bringing completely rotting cars back to life in the last season, Derek is geared to restore a new and exciting collection of cars to their former glory. First seen in September of 2022, Roadworthy Rescues documents Derek Dieri’s quest to fix forgotten cars and bring them back onto the road.
Derek is usually seen fixing up cars on the Vice Grip Garage YouTube Channel, but on this show, he takes the level of restoration up a notch by fixing cars almost on the verge of complete breakdown.
Rather than finding an unused or second-hand car, Bieri works on rusty, decaying cars spread throughout America. As said by Derek Bieri, “A little bit of spit shine and it’ll be just fine”. He brings these forgotten relics back onto the road by working on them extensively, sometimes with a little help from his wife Jessica and others at his garage.
Roadworthy Rescues Season 1: Recap
The previous season of Roadworthy Rescues started with Derek finding a 1967 Ford Mustang that lay dormant in a dense forest for over 28 years. After many years of neglect, the Mustang was filled with leaves, nuts, and other trash. Moreover, its engines were all rusty, and tires needed to be replaced.
No one would ever look at such a car and think it could return to its former glory again, but with a mind like Derek’s, this looked like an easy job. By fixing its tires, seats, and engines, Bieri left no stone unturned to get it working again. Derek’s hard work finally paid off after it started to work just as fine as it used to back in the 60s.
Another car we see being worked on in Roadworthy Rescues is the 1951 Chevrolet Deluxe, which Derek claimed was unused for 44 years. That’s a very long period, so this Chevrolet had decayed completely.
However, that isn’t enough to intimidate Derek, as he gets it running on Chattanooga’s hills after a few days. For fixing a 1966 Pontiac Tempest, Derek calls in his expert Interior man, Dan, to work alongside him on this rare car that even had an overhead-camshaft six-cylinder engine.
To work in a 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, Derek returns to where it all began, the first ever shop he apprenticed as. This Chevrolet was dormant for 20 years, putting it in serious disrepair. Along with their brother Sean, Derek starts to back its broken parts so it can easily drive on the Black Hills of South Dakota.
