Read Choi is a Korean-American content creator. He remains in the news for various reasons, but mostly for the wrong things. Though he is very popular on TikTok, he just can’t seem to escape controversies. More recently, he was embroiled in controversies for his lewd remarks. Hence, he gets canceled a lot on social media, and his followers have started unfollowing him. Truly, social media is a place that can give you all but can also take away everything once you go down the wrong road.
The controversies he got involved in include related to his ex-girlfriends and a more recent one of misusing crowdfunding he organized. We’ll discuss two major recent ones. One involving his ex-girlfriend Gina Darling. Along with this, there is another controversy that bubbled up, involving a homeless woman whom he supposedly scammed. Read Choi’s Beef With Ex-Girlfriend Gina Darling
Like Read Choi, Gina Darling is also a social media influencer. They started dating each other sometime in December 2020 and broke up in March 2021. The two even made content together. After they broke up, Read posted about his feelings of devastation after the breakup. But soon after their breakup, Read was seen hanging around with a girl whom he met online. Gina took to social media to reveal some details. She told how Read had strong opinions about dating apps and how people on them are weak. But he himself has become one of them, going against what he once used to preach. Gina even connected with a girl who was then canceling Read on the internet. Through her, she found how he was in multiple relationships all at once. Apparently, he used girls for “clout”.
Another fact that provoked Gina to reveal all was when she contracted Chlamydia. It’s a sexually transmitted disease, and she alleged that he proceeded to sleep with her, knowing he had the disease. She has also accused him of having multiple sexual partners over time.
Further, in some of her conclusive TikTok videos, Gina told how Read Choi is a misogynistic and manipulative guy. Other girls who dated him had a similar description to give about him.
Read Choi’s Public Apology
After all this, Read Choi took to Instagram to post a public apology. He went ahead and called him a piece of a shit mat. He agreed to have maltreated women and that he is reflecting on it. Read went ahead and talked about his childhood and how it wasn’t the nicest one.
He also alleged how he wasn’t aware of the STD since he showed no symptoms. Once he found out Gina had caught the disease from him, he apologized to her and got tested. He claims he is getting educated about the issue and getting treated for it.
Talking about the double standards regarding his opinion about dating apps, all he had to say was he liked to keep his sex life private. Hence, he wasn’t open about such experiences. But the next thing is probably the most problematic thing ever. Read claimed how he is weak when it comes to women and sex. For him, sex is a coping mechanism, an escape. He was devastated after his and Gina’s breakup, and the only way he knew how to handle it was by having sex. These reckless statements gave a lot away about what he considers women as.
Misuse Of Donations By Read Choi For A Homeless Woman
Another scandal wherein he got involved was related to a homeless woman. In one of his videos, he’s seen helping a homeless woman named Martha. Under those posts, he raised a donation for Martha, to which people contributed, thinking he was trying to change. After a month so, he finally updated, thanking his followers for their help for Martha. Soon after, he went MIA on his main account, leaving his followers to wonder where did the money go to. At this time, another TikToker, DtheKorean posted a video asking Read Choi where did his went to? Not just this, D himself reached out to this woman Martha, who isn’t even called Martha. Her name is Marcia. Marcia said that Read comes once in a while and leaves shortly. She also didn’t know about any money.
But for this, Read replied with another video where he states that she doesn’t have a good memory, so he can’t give that huge amount of money to her. Hence, he is spending it for her on her behalf. He also fishes out some receipts like that of hospital room expenses. Read Choi also called out D for an inappropriate interrogation with a person, prodding them with questions when she has trust issues.
The followers of both accounts were left confused as to who to trust. Eventually, Read’s ex-girlfriend Gina also spoke up. But she spoke in favor of D, stating Read is so vile to con a homeless old woman. She further stated how they will help Marcia now and help her get the money she deserves.
After all this situation, Read Choi got canceled, and many other TikTokers since then have come out in support of D, claiming Read Choi to be a scammer.
