Pocketpair wants to expand Palworld’s endgame without turning its survival adventure into a combat-focused experience. John “Bucky” Buckley, the studio’s Head of Publishing and Communications, explained that future development must accommodate players seeking difficult challenges while preserving the freedom that allows others to focus on building, exploration, and collecting Pals.

In an interview with MP1st, Buckley said the studio wants to provide long-term players with meaningful goals without undermining the game’s defining freedom. His comments suggest that Pocketpair sees balancing different playstyles as an important consideration for Palworld’s future, although the studio has not announced specific new endgame features.

PALWORLD’S ENDGAME MUST SUPPORT DIFFERENT PLAYSTYLES

Palworld attracts players with different priorities. Some want challenging encounters and clear progression, while others prefer constructing elaborate bases, discovering new Pals, exploring the world, or simply spending time in the game.

Pocketpair wants to accommodate these different approaches rather than make combat the central requirement for continued progression. Adding more difficult encounters could give experienced players reasons to return, but the studio also wants to preserve the open-ended gameplay that allows players to set their own objectives.

Buckley did not confirm whether Pocketpair plans to introduce a definitive ending or specific endgame activities. Instead, he emphasized the importance of finding a balance between meaningful challenges and player freedom.

POCKETPAIR WANTS NEW PALS TO OFFER MORE THAN BIGGER NUMBERS

The studio’s approach to endgame development also extends to how it introduces new Pals. Buckley explained that Pocketpair does not want to increase the creature roster simply to make it larger. Instead, each addition should have distinctive qualities, whether through its design, abilities, combat role, usefulness at a base, or personality.

“We try not to think of new Pals as simply adding another number to the roster,”

Buckley told MP1st. He also noted that Pocketpair reviews player data and feedback when introducing new Pals, helping the team address balancing challenges as the roster grows. These decisions could influence how future additions contribute to combat, progression, and other activities.

UPDATE 1.1 AND PALWORLD’S LONG-TERM FUTURE

Pocketpair is also preparing Palworld Update 1.1, although Buckley cautioned that it would not be a massive update. He said players should be happy with the release but declined to reveal its features during the interview.

The developer continues to support Palworld through free updates and has not ruled out a larger expansion in the distant future. However, Buckley confirmed that no expansion is currently in active development and that Pocketpair has no specific plans to announce.

For now, the studio’s stated priority is to keep improving Palworld without compromising the freedom that defines its gameplay. Whether players prefer challenging encounters or peaceful base-building, Pocketpair wants future additions to provide meaningful reasons to return without forcing everyone toward the same objectives.
