Before Palworld officially exited Early Access with its Version 1.0 launch on July 10, Pocketpair encountered an unexpected obstacle while preparing the update for Steam.
According to John “Bucky” Buckley, the studio’s Head of Publishing & Communications, the game’s patch notes had grown so large that Steam refused to accept them because they exceeded the platform’s character limit.
Steam Couldn’t Handle Palworld’s Massive Patch Notes

Buckley shared the issue on X while uploading the Version 1.0 update notes before release. A screenshot showed Steam warning that the document had exceeded its 32,000-character limit, preventing it from being published.
In a follow-up post, Buckley revealed the patch notes had expanded to around 40 pages and roughly 65,000 characters—more than double Steam’s maximum allowance.
Despite the hurdle, the team quickly found a solution. Buckley later updated fans, writing,
“Fixed it without making any compromises,”
confirming that the complete notes would still be made available.

Version 1.0 Brings Palworld’s Biggest Update Yet
The enormous size of the patch notes reflects the scope of Palworld Version 1.0, which marks the game’s transition out of Early Access after more than two years.
The update introduces over 20 new Pals, opens the long-awaited World Tree region, concludes the main story, and reworks Tower Bosses, Wildlife Sanctuaries, and No-Hunting Zones.
Pocketpair has confirmed that existing save files remain compatible with Version 1.0, although the studio recommends starting a new save to experience the updated progression and content as intended.
The full release also follows another milestone for the survival game. Ahead of Version 1.0, Pocketpair announced that Palworld had surpassed 40 million players across all platforms. The developer also confirmed that the game would retain its $29.99 price despite leaving Early Access.
