Palworld continues to reach new commercial milestones, with a new report estimating that the monster-catching survival game has now sold 30.5 million copies worldwide. If the figures are accurate, Pocketpair’s breakout title has overtaken nearly every mainline Pokémon game in lifetime sales, trailing only the original Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue.
The latest sales estimate comes from Alinea Analytics, which tracks video game market performance across multiple platforms. According to the firm’s analysis, the launch of Palworld Version 1.0 has significantly boosted the game’s commercial success, helping it generate an estimated $700 million in total revenue across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Palworld climbs above most Pokémon generations
Based on Alinea Analytics’ estimates, Palworld now sits second among the best-selling creature-collecting RPGs, behind only the original Pokémon generation, which Nintendo has officially reported at 31.38 million copies sold.
That would place Palworld ahead of several of Nintendo’s biggest releases, including:
- Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – 28.08 million
- Pokémon Sword and Shield – 27.08 million
- Pokémon Gold and Silver – 23.70 million
- Pokémon Diamond and Pearl – 17.67 million
If the estimate holds, Pocketpair’s title is now fewer than 900,000 copies away from matching the best-selling mainline Pokémon generation in franchise history.
One of the biggest factors behind Palworld’s rapid growth is its availability across multiple platforms. Unlike the mainline Pokémon series, which remains exclusive to Nintendo hardware, Palworld launched on Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and is also available through Xbox Game Pass.
According to Alinea Analytics, the majority of revenue has come from the PC version, while PlayStation has also contributed millions of sales following the game’s release on Sony’s platform.
The broader platform availability has allowed Pocketpair to reach a much larger audience than any individual Pokémon release, giving the game a significant commercial advantage.
The comparison comes with important context
While the sales comparison is impressive, there are several factors worth considering. Pokémon titles typically launch at $60–70, whereas Palworld entered Early Access at $29.99 and has frequently been offered at discounted prices.
Additionally, Nintendo updates Pokémon sales figures only during its financial reports. That means Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s official total of 28.08 million units does not include any copies sold since the company’s latest earnings release, so the gap between the two games may now be smaller than currently reported.
Even with those caveats, Palworld’s reported performance remains remarkable. Released as a brand-new intellectual property in 2024, the game has grown into one of the industry’s biggest success stories in just over two years. As Pocketpair continues supporting the game with major updates, including Version 1.0, Palworld has established itself as one of the highest-selling creature-collecting games ever released.
