Pocketpair’s Palworld continues to defy expectations more than two years after its explosive debut. According to the latest market estimates from Alinea Analytics, the monster-catching survival game has now sold approximately 30.5 million copies worldwide following the launch of its long-awaited Version 1.0 update.
The firm also estimates that the title has generated around $700 million in gross software revenue, cementing its place among the most successful original gaming IPs in recent years.
The figures come shortly after Pocketpair confirmed that Palworld has surpassed 40 million players across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox since launching in early access in January 2024.
While the player milestone includes Game Pass users, Alinea’s report focuses specifically on premium game sales, providing a clearer picture of the game’s commercial performance.
Steam remains Palworld’s biggest platform after Version 1.0 launch
According to Alinea Analytics’ latest market report, Steam continues to dominate Palworld’s commercial success. The platform is estimated to account for 27.1 million copies sold, representing nearly 86% of the game’s total sales.
Following the release of Version 1.0, Palworld reportedly sold an additional 1.5 million copies on Steam, generating roughly $25 million in revenue. PlayStation contributed another 300,000 copies, while Xbox added just under 70,000 premium sales after the update.
The report notes that regional pricing plays a significant role in Steam’s revenue distribution. While the United States and China each account for roughly 27% of Steam sales, lower regional pricing in China results in lower average revenue per copy despite the country’s enormous player base.
Pocketpair also supported the Version 1.0 rollout with the game’s biggest discount yet, offering a 30% price reduction across Steam and later PlayStation. According to Alinea, the strategy helped generate a substantial second wave of purchases while keeping Palworld’s price well below the current $70 standard seen across many AAA releases.
Version 1.0 brings players back with major content additions

One of the biggest reasons behind Palworld’s renewed momentum appears to be the scope of its Version 1.0 update.
The expansion introduced 72 new Pals, additional biomes, raid bosses, dungeons, an expanded technology tree, and several gameplay improvements. Steam users responding to the update frequently praised the game’s combination of creature collecting, survival mechanics, automation, and open-world exploration.
Alinea Analytics wrote that player feedback suggests the progression system remains one of Palworld’s strongest features, noting that many users continue playing well beyond the 100-hour mark.
The report estimates that 20% of Steam owners—roughly 5.2 million players—have logged more than 100 hours, while nearly 200,000 players have surpassed 500 hours of gameplay. Meanwhile, daily active users reportedly averaged 3.7 million over the most recent weekend, with monthly active users projected to exceed 10 million across PC and consoles.
Regional player feedback highlights different priorities
Alinea Analytics also examined review trends across different languages following Version 1.0.
According to the report, many English-language reviewers viewed purchasing the game as support for Pocketpair following its legal dispute involving Nintendo. Reviews also praised the game’s value while criticizing technical issues such as AMD GPU performance and the lack of FSR support at launch.
Chinese players, however, focused far more heavily on gameplay systems. Reviews praised the combination of survival crafting and creature collection, along with the amount of content available.
Some players criticized balance changes affecting Pal breeding and workflow mechanics, but the overall reception remained highly positive, with Simplified Chinese reviews sitting at approximately 92% positive.
Pocketpair has already begun growing the Palworld franchise beyond its flagship title.
The developer recently announced Palworld: Palfarm, a farming-focused multiplayer spin-off inspired by games such as Stardew Valley. According to Alinea Analytics, the move makes strategic sense because Stardew Valley ranks among the games with the strongest player overlap with Palworld.
The report concludes that the franchise remains well positioned for continued growth, particularly on Steam, where long-term engagement remains exceptionally strong.
Alinea Analytics questions the future of traditional consoles
Beyond Palworld’s success, Alinea Analytics used the report to discuss broader industry trends, arguing that the traditional console business model faces increasing economic pressure.
The company believes rising manufacturing costs, expensive hardware components, and shrinking profit margins are forcing platform holders to rethink how consoles are sold and monetized. Rather than describing consoles as “doomed,” the report suggests they are transitioning into premium products aimed primarily at dedicated enthusiasts instead of mass-market consumers.
Alinea argues that longer console generations, cross-platform software releases, subscription services, and alternative payment models are likely to become increasingly important as companies adapt to higher production costs.
Despite those challenges, the firm’s outlook remains optimistic for software. It concludes that today’s hardware still has significant life left, allowing developers to continue delivering high-quality games without requiring players to immediately upgrade to another expensive generation of consoles.
