Another show from The Walking Dead franchise is based on a similar post-apocalyptic horror reality that is ready to be presented to fans on June 18th, 2023. The show, created by Eli Jorne, is a spinoff story around the two characters, Maggie and Negan, from the original show The Walking Dead, played by Lauren Cohen and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the same actors who played these roles in the original series as well.
While many fans have had enough of the Walking Dead spinoffs and other related content, others are excited over the fact that the producers are finally bringing the spotlight to the original show’s two most loved characters. The show has not even aired, yet fans are already divided on how good the actual story is going to be.
Through the trailers, it also felt like the show has tried to move away from the original series’ shadow and background by bringing a change in the scenario of this new spinoff. Apart from the two leads, the show has also cast actor Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong, Zeljko Ivanek as The Croat, and Mahina Napolean as Ginny.
AMC+ had certain episodes premiered early on for fans to watch before its official release on AMC. And from what is obvious is that this version has taken the gruesome nature of the original show and dialed it to eleven. The series is an exciting and brutal journey and seems to be worth the wait.
The Walking Dead: Dead City: The Plot
The basic outline of the show follows Maggie and Negan as they enter Manhattan, a city that has been brought down to its knees and is completely in ruins. Still in the post-apocalyptic world, the two enter the city in hopes of finding Maggie’s young son, Hershel, who seems to have been kidnapped and brought here far away in a place entirely cut off from the main city area.
Keeping up with its name, Manhattan City is full of dead people or zombies walking and ruling the place, having made it their own little kingdom. The denizens have total control over the ruined region, and both Maggie and Negan are forced to face the terrorizing danger and their fear of death to survive and get their son back.
This series is based a few years after the entire original series shenanigans come to an end, but the story itself is so full and sufficient it does not need to depend on any of the previous releases. The show is shot entirely in New York City, and one thing that the makers have done is shoot most of the not-so-impacting scenes indoors, which eventually adds to the grand nature of the beautiful cinematic shots of the ruined city which have been sandwiched in between scenes.
The story feels a bit slow at the start, but you will have to stick around to get all of your questions answered.
