The horror series Gannibal is entirely new. It’s a dismal modern horror series that feels older because it’s set in a more rural area of Japan. It reminds me of the superb South Korean film The Wailing, which I wholeheartedly recommend.
There will be a lot of murders and cannibalism in this manga-inspired series. A director who was educated by South Korean directors made this live-action rendition. It’s visible in all the proper areas. The first two episodes of the seven-part series may now be viewed online.
Gannibal is a live-action adaptation of the manga series of the same name. The film was directed by Shinzô Katayama and scripted by Takamasa Oe. The filmmaker alone entices me to give this a shot. To be honest, the plot is engaging enough to warrant a viewing.
Shinzô Katayama previously directed the excellent horror-thriller Missing (2021). The series is broken into seven episodes, each lasting one to thirty minutes. Officer Agawa Daigo notices that something is badly wrong with the inhabitants of the town. There is also a supernatural (or, if you prefer, sci-fi) element in the plot.
Gannibal Japanese show
The Gannibal series has built a tremendous fan base in a relatively short period of time. Its episode holds the audience’s attention, and fans eagerly await the following installment. As a result, the next episode will be available through the Disney Plus app.
Gannibal Plot
After a catastrophic incident, Daigo Agawa, a police officer, relocates his wife, Yuki, and daughter Mashiro to the lonely mountain village of Kuge. Despite the mysterious disappearance of a military commander stationed there, the environment appears to be ideal for the family’s recovery from their loss.
The residents make their living from cypress wood, and the community is structured around it. The entire operation is run by the Goto family, who own the majority of the hamlet. One day, the body of an elderly woman is discovered on the hills. Despite the Gotos’ allegation that she was bitten by a bear, Daigo notices a human bite mark on her arm. Daigo is concerned that the community is in danger.
Gannibal Recap
Cannibalism is the major narrative in a rural Japanese hamlet. We learn in the first two episodes (published at the series premiere) that you should avoid the Goto family. Everyone knows they’re a nuisance and keep to themselves.
Also, everyone who tries to probe the family usually vanishes. Completely. As in “bones and all,” there are only incidents of missing people. Not in the case of murder investigations. Or, at the very least, the Gotos have gotten away with it for a while. However, there is a new sheriff in town. Or, more accurately, a Chuzai!
Agawa Daigo, a Gannibal cop, is promoted to Chuzai (residential police) in Kyokamura, where he lives with his wife and daughter. Despite his inability to communicate, the latter appears to be in good health. This new job is created after the former Chuzai inexplicably disappears.
Agawa Daigo (Yûya Yagira) is now burdened with being the Chuzai of Kyokamura while also solving the mystery of his predecessor’s disappearance. During this process, he swiftly discovers the horrifying truth about Hamlet. A cannibalistic practice that continues to be practiced in the village today.
Gannibal is mostly a character-driven novel, despite its horrific and horrifying fundamental theme. You will meet many intriguing folks. Some are better than others, but they are all realistically flawed. Chuzai, the youthful and tough one, included.

Just for the director, give it a go. The plot alone is compelling enough to justify a watch. The seven-part series’ episodes endure an hour and a little more than 30 minutes.
