Targaryen, White Walkers, The Starks, The Imp, etc., have been prominent words in the world of series. Yes, you guessed it right, it is all about the ultimate best and one of the most loved HBO shows, Game Of Thrones. However, in this article, we shall learn all about the filming locations of Game Of Thrones.
Characters of the show like Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Richard Madden as Robb Stark, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, and many others will live on forever in fans’ hearts.
GOT is a very long series, and we cannot expect it to be shot at only some specific places. However, the HBO series has been in so many countries like Ireland, Iceland, Croatia, Malta, and various other places. In the next section, we shall see all the places and which scenes are shot there; take a look.
Game Of Thrones Filming Locations
Fort Manoel, Gżira, Malta
Which Game of Thrones can forget the scene where the King of North Ned Stak got executed by the cruel Joffrey? This scene was shot in Malta’s very famous fort called Fort Manoel, and this place was used as a spot where executions were done in King’s Landing.
However, it was in Malta only where Daenerys married Khal Drogo, which was a beautiful location.
Northern Ireland
Greyjoys have been an important character of GOT; Yara Greyjoy (Theon’s sister) ruled the Iron Throne for the Greyjoys after her father and their whole kingdom were set up in Ballintoy Harbour in Northern Ireland which is also known as raised beach. It is an immensely beautiful place, and you might have noticed that all along the sea coast.
A major amount of scenes in Game of Thrones were shot in Northern Ireland. Remember Lady Melisandre? Of course, who wouldn’t? She was known for her weird and supernatural powers and played an amazing role in the series.
She gives birth to a shadow in the caves in front of Sir Davos Seaworth, and this scene was shot in The Cushendun Caves, Northern Ireland. The caves are beautiful and very pleasing to the eyes located in the County Antrim, and it is a perfect place for all the tropical vibes.
Try to recall the very first season of GOT, and it is all a recollection of the Stark family. There was a scene where Ned Stark’s children ran into a forest and found the beautiful babies of a dire wolf. Each of them marks a baby as theirs, and those wolves have been very helpful during their tough time. This forest was none other than Tollymore Forest Park in Northern Ireland.
Iceland
When we think of white, ice, and beauty, the only country that comes into our minds is Iceland. Try remembering the furious white walkers beyond the wall. It was every time very frightening to watch the scenes beyond the wall, there were whole white surreal glacier scenes, and everything you saw was Myrdalsjokull glacier in Iceland’s highlands.
And, who could, of course, get season 7 out of their minds, especially the scene where Jon Snow and his mates go beyond the wall to fight against the white walkers & the night King and are eventually stuck? But then comes Daenerys and her dragons, who save them all. This scene was filmed at Church Mountain, aka Kirkjufell, in Iceland.
Also, the cave where Jon & Ygritte make out is also situated in Iceland, which is a small cave known as Grjótagjá, and it still has hot springs in it.
Croatia
Many memorable scenes in the show are shot in Croatia. “The girl has no name,” remember? This dialogue was in our minds for the longest time, I guess! This season was shot in Sibenik, Croatia, and is such a historical and must-visit place. In the show, this was Braavos.
Thus, these were all the filming locations of the HBO drama Game Of Thrones. You can visit some of these locations & they are indeed very fun to explore. And if you have, comment about your experience.
