Monster Hunter Wilds enjoyed one of the strongest launches in Capcom’s history when it debuted in February 2025. Still, the game’s momentum slowed considerably in the months that followed. Technical issues, particularly on PC. Mixed player feedback affected long-term sales, allowing older entries in the franchise to continue outperforming it in quarterly rankings.
Despite that slowdown, Capcom remains confident that Monster Hunter Wilds still has the potential to become the company’s biggest success. During a recent investor Q&A, the publisher said its long-term strategy is focused on improving the game’s performance, expanding its audience, and ultimately surpassing the lifetime sales of Monster Hunter: World. According to Capcom’s latest financial data, Monster Hunter: World has now exceeded 30 million copies sold worldwide, making it the company’s highest-selling title to date.
Capcom believes long-term updates can transform Wilds’ sales performance
While Monster Hunter Wilds has sold approximately 11.4 million copies since launch, it still trails Monster Hunter: World’s massive lifetime total by a significant margin. Capcom acknowledged that the latest entry faced technical challenges but said recent updates have already improved player response.
The company stated,
“We plan to continue improving the game’s technical performance as we aim to drive its total unit sales beyond those of Monster Hunter: World over the medium to long term.”
The comments came from Capcom’s latest investor Q&A, where executives also noted positive reactions following major performance improvements, the announcement of the Ascendance expansion, and recent pricing adjustments.

Those initiatives appear to be part of a broader strategy rather than a short-term sales push. Capcom has repeatedly emphasized that it manages major releases over several years through continued updates, expansions, and price reductions designed to attract new players while retaining existing fans.
The publisher has already confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for release in 2027. The expansion will introduce new story content, monsters, quest ranks, gameplay features, and weapon enhancements, similar to how Iceborne significantly extended Monster Hunter: World’s lifespan. Capcom has also announced that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds is in development, potentially opening the game to an entirely new audience.
Whether those plans will be enough remains to be seen. Monster Hunter: World continues to sell steadily years after launch, highlighting the challenge Wilds faces. However, with technical improvements, a major expansion, additional platform support, and ongoing promotional efforts, Capcom believes the game still has a realistic opportunity to close the gap over the coming years.
