Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, bringing the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy to its conclusion. The game will release simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC.
The release date was revealed during a PlayStation State of Play presentation alongside a new trailer and an extended gameplay demonstration. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 version comes with a significant storage requirement, as players will need at least 130GB of free space to download the game.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is a massive Switch 2 game with two story expansions
Square Enix’s Japanese Final Fantasy portal confirms that the physical Nintendo Switch 2 release will use a Game-Key Card. Players will need an internet connection when first launching the game because the full software must be downloaded, requiring at least 130GB of available storage.
That makes Final Fantasy VII Revelation one of the largest games announced for Nintendo’s current hardware. Players purchasing the physical version should therefore be prepared for a substantial download rather than expecting the Game-Key Card to contain the entire game.

The size requirement is understandable given the scale Square Enix is targeting for the trilogy’s finale. The developer describes the game as featuring a vast interconnected planet that players can explore using the Highwind airship, while Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine become playable members of the party. The game will also allow players to switch between active party members while exploring and customize their characters through the new FITS system.
The launch announcement also confirmed that the game will receive two story-focused DLC expansions. The first is titled Story DLC 1: Sephiroth, while the second is Story DLC 2: Vincent & the Turks. Both expansions are planned to release between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, although Square Enix notes that the schedules and content could change.
These expansions will be included in the game’s Story Expansion Pass, which will also be sold separately after Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches. The Premium Edition includes the pass, while the more expensive Premium Plus Edition adds digital extras and 24-hour early access.
Square Enix is also offering a $349.99 Collector’s Edition through its official store. Alongside the game and Story Expansion Pass, the package includes a statue featuring Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth, a SteelBook case, an artbook, a mini soundtrack and several digital bonuses.
The main game itself remains the centerpiece, however, with Square Enix positioning Final Fantasy VII Revelation as the conclusion to its ambitious remake project. Players who own Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can also receive special bonuses based on their existing save data.
With its April 8, 2027 release date, enormous 130GB Switch 2 requirement and two planned story expansions, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is shaping up to be one of the biggest third-party releases for Nintendo’s system.
