In the Discovery Channel’s gold prospecting show situated in Alaska, a storm is brewing and the miners must scramble to do whatever they can. In Bering Sea Gold Season 17 Episode 8, we are going to see the fallout of what was an incredible display of nature’s wrath that had the miners, their equipment, and the film crews evacuate the premises.
But that’s the gist of the show, a long-format and unscripted adventure that shows us the challenges that these companies have to go through to dig up gold from the ground for profit. And so far, this season has seen it all for all crews: From one team not being able to deploy their equipment despite their investments, another crew losing its divers, and another one with lots of operational issues.
Recap
The storm of the century lurks days away and Vernon Adkison is fearful that the weather might ruin things for everyone. He trusts his crew, and they’re going to roll their dice and going to claim 56 and 45 feet deep with a chance to get some gold. The bad weather makes big waves, and the visibility underwater becomes an issue even for the most seasoned divers.
Reaper Nation is trying to squeeze all the time they can before the storm by using their underwater crawler, which coupled with the excavator barge and the new boat will bring them in some gold, but they found some problems across the way, the season has shown that multiple malfunctions have them 900 ounces behind their goal. They check their cameras, hydraulics, motor, and anchor and they are ready to go.
Cody and Shawn head to Tomcod Claim on their barges with the intention of sluicing the place until the storm gets them out of there. They hit it off well, but the storm is near as the sky darkens.
When the storm makes landfall, all hell breaks loose, emergency response teams have to move, cars are flooded and equipment and houses are destroyed. Now every team must scramble to see what’s left and what kind of damage their equipment suffered because they had to evacuate the place along with the filming crew for safety reasons.
