A24’s live-action adaptation of Elden Ring has reached a major production milestone, with filming reportedly nearing completion after almost four months of shooting.
The latest update comes from prop maker Sean Schofield, who worked on the film and shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse on social media, indicating that principal photography is almost finished.
Crew member hints filming is wrapping up
Schofield, whose previous credits include The Witcher and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, posted a photo of what appeared to be a production wrap gift alongside a thank-you note signed by director Alex Garland and the film’s producers.
Reflecting on his experience, Schofield wrote:
“Dream job to end all dream jobs. 6 solid months of blood, sweat and tears making the coolest stuff ever, working alongside the best of the best. Can’t share anything else for a very long time, but I couldn’t be more proud of what we did.”
While Schofield did not reveal any production details, the post strongly suggests the project is transitioning into post-production, where visual effects and editing will become the primary focus before its March 3, 2028 release.

A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment officially announced the adaptation in 2025, with Alex Garland serving as writer and director. Garland, known for Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, has previously spoken about his admiration for FromSoftware’s games.
According to earlier reports highlighted by Polygon, Garland completed Elden Ring multiple times and even prepared a 160-page screenplay, along with roughly 40 additional pages of visual concepts, to convince FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki to approve the adaptation.
Set photos shared over recent months have already given fans brief looks at recognizable locations inspired by Stormveil Castle and Liurnia of the Lakes, as well as characters believed to include Queen Marika, Sorcerer Rogier, and the Dung Eater. Although A24 has not officially commented on the production status, the leaked images have generated significant excitement among the game’s community.
The film also features an ensemble cast that includes Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Tom Burke, Jonathan Pryce, Nick Offerman, Sonoya Mizuno, Ruby Cruz, and Peter Serafinowicz. With filming nearly complete, attention now turns to the extensive post-production process needed to recreate the world of the Lands Between for the big screen.
