This episode features the most blood and guts in the whole series. That was horrifying. The final line of defense for the Dungeon appears to be less nonsensical and more akin to a Cassandra prophecy. Additionally, given that Ouranos tells Fells that he kept the presence of the beast a secret and that one of the adventurers who knows about it is the last person who should know about it, it may be a secret that has been kept too well. The man here is Jura, who was responsible for slaughtering Astraea Familia in wholesale fashion five years ago.
Even if it meant most of Rudra Familia perished, it was hardly something they didn’t welcome, even if they didn’t intend to murder Juggernaut. It appears that Jura’s tune has changed since then, but when he recounts it to Bell, it seems that they were thrilled to have an easy way to eliminate the hated members of the all-woman family; however, it was only after Jura realized that Ryu had survived that it became apparent that it was a wrong that had to be corrected that Ryu also survived.
A guy who resents a lady for surviving his blatant murder attempt does not describe a person as an “unhinged toxic lunatic.” We knew Jura wasn’t of sound mind several episodes ago, but now that he’s unleashed what he calls “his” monster, he’s reached a whole new level of insanity. Jurra is quite certain he can tame the beast with his magical whip, and there’s a sense that this is partially due to his earlier experience with it. The fact that it didn’t kill him previously indicates that he’s somehow stronger than it, which means he’s suitable to be its master, in his view. Even though Ryu survived the Juggernaut’s rampage five years ago, he entirely rejects her.
Despite her family giving their lives to allow her to live, he frames her survivor guilt as her killing them all herself; he sneeringly tells her survivor status is somehow less than his. This is more an interpretation based on how manipulative he has been throughout this whole series, rather than spoiling book information. When Jura says that Ryu killed Astrea Familia, you can bet money that’s not necessarily true. He blames Ryu for everything he’s done to her and we can’t blame him for that. It is for this reason that Bell, the eternal white knight, is his greatest asset.
The fact that Ryu lost everyone she cared about is being used by Jura to manipulate her into the path of the Juggernaut again. Bell, whom she loves, may be relied on to save her, putting Ryu in the same situation she was in a decade earlier. The lemon juice in Jura’s plot adds to Ryu’s anguish as she observes even unconnected explorers slain by the monster right in front of her eyes. This episode is among the bloodiest and most violent on the programme, made worse by Bell closing his eyes at the conclusion. It is not all hopeless. Ouranos mentioned that the Xenos are aware of the Dungeon’s screams, and even if most are assisting Knossos, one is left who can assist if she can reach it before the lights disappear completely.
