Invasion, created by David Weil and Simon Kinberg, came back with the second season on 23rd August 2023 after the first successful season in 2021 and in this article, we will take a look at the filming locations for the 2nd season.
This Apple TV show explores various themes of an alien invasion. The show bounces between continents, from Asia to North America, so it is natural for the production team to film the scenes in various parts of the world.
Since the caravan is constantly on the move for filming, some of the characters never get the chance to interact and never share one scene because of the vast filming locations.
Synopsis
Earth is invaded by an alien species that endangers the existence of human beings. The incident that happens is shown through the eyes of 5 ordinary lives across the world as they cope with the chaos surrounding them.
What makes the show unique is the screenplay and the perspective of each individual and how they go on with their lives amidst the alien invasion. The narration ties the story of each character very beautifully.
New York, United States
The first filming location for the show was in the United States. As per Cinemaholic, the scenes of Ahmed and Anisha were shot in the Big Apple, making it look like these characters and children are the residents of Long Island. Other exterior shots in New York City were also used for filming, as the show explores Ahmed and Aneesha’s points of view of an alien invasion on Earth.
Greenwich, London, England
A major portion of the Invasion plot happens in England as the teenage boy, Caspar Morrow, plays an important part in ending the alien’s plan on Earth, residing in the city.
In conclusion, the crew and the cast shot many scenes of Caspar’s in London. The Cinemaholic specifically said that the filming crew used a borough of the British City of Greenwich to lens the teenager’s plot. Greenwich was one of the last filming locations of season 1.
Morocco
Trevante Cole, one of the main characters of the show, is a U.S. citizen who became a soldier in season 1.
Of course, it was not possible to shoot the scenes in a Middle Eastern country, so to get a similar vibe as Eastern Countries the filming was done in Morocco.
Japan
Mitsuki Yamato is another major character in the show. She works in the communication department in the space program. To film her specific scenes, the filming cast and crew traveled to the island country.
The filmmakers of the show were adamant about making the show a worldwide show not only for the story but for behind the scenes too.
As Mitsuki lived in Japan, the filming crew used multiple places in the East Asian country, especially Tokyo, to shoot her parts in the season.
Kent, England
For season 2 some of the episodes were filmed in the United Kingdom. As per Ready Steady Cut, some parts of the new season were filmed in Kent, England with the filming crew traveling to Dover’s White Cliffs on the coastline, the upper road in Dover, and the entrance in Folkestone of Euro tunnel terminal to shoot some of the scenes.
When you will see the scenes, you will spot these locations as they’re easily recognizable, so you’ll be able to identify them when they pop up in the show.
London, England
The filming crew of the show also used OMA:X Film Studio in Enfield, North London to film some scenes. But it is not clear which part of the show was shot there. The production studio is the largest in London, and some other movies have also used OMA:X studios to illustrate their plots. Peaky Blinders and The Crown have shot their episodes here.
South Africa
For filming the majority of the show, the filming crew went to South Africa. Ready Steady Cut said that South Africa was the primary place for the filming of all ten episodes of the second season.
It is possible that for season 1 the crew jumped various locations and because of that they must have burned the whole filming budget, so for season 2 the producers thought to cut the filming cost and filmed the majority of the show in South Africa.
