It’s time for Grownish Season 5 Episode 3 Release Date. In the past episode, we witnessed how Junior joins a secret society called “the Crest,” but friction between him and Annika grows since she believes he was picked not for his abilities but rather for the color of his skin. The Annika playbook doesn’t seem cool that the institution utilizes Junior’s image to promote diversity and inclusiveness. So how, along with its consequences, will that be a central story point this season?
In the most recent episode, we saw that Zoey returned to Cal U to assist Junior and that she missed Cal U. Then, Junior left his dorm to attend a Doug-hosted party with a White theme. Without further ado, join us for this week’s Grown-ish recap!
Grownish Season 5 Episode 2 Recap
After Junior’s covert encounter with the Crest, a secret society working on campus, his roommates start to wonder where he is. Annika is furious that they chose him over her even though he recognizes that he was chosen to join. She claims they picked him because he is a safe option and because they are angry. Annika is convinced Junior was only selected for the Crest because he is a Black man from the suburbs who will bolster their reputation for diversity. After he tells Annika that it is not his fault she doesn’t get a spot herself, she walks off in a rage.
After the session goes awry, Doug convinces the photographer at his place of employment to follow his recommendations. Aaron is aware of the new position he has in the Cal University diversity movement. He begins to feel used when he sees himself in the most recent Cal U advertising video. When he arrives home, pumped up after pitching his ideas to the photographer, Doug encourages Aaron to raise trouble at Cal U and refuses to be the face of the university unless they make the true change. Aaron has a conversation with the dean and decides to go for it.
Campus Controversy
Junior feels positive that Annika was mistaken when she said that the Crest would make a safe choice in choosing him. He runs into Kyle, a fellow Black man from the neighborhood who addresses him as Barack—just like Annika—and talks to him about how things are changing for Black college students. This irritates Junior, who simultaneously nominates Annika for the society and gripes that more Black kids are being accepted despite their risky choices. Kyle claims that, to everyone’s surprise, Annika is obvious to be the incorrect fit for the Crest. When Junior pushes Kyle on it, he refers to Annika as being from the ghetto.
Junior declines the invitation to participate and asks for a ride home rather than accepting it while envisioning punching him in the face. He drops by Annika’s dorm room to let her know he won’t be joining. She apologizes for referring to him as a safe option and clarifies that her genuine goal is to set an example. When Annika and Junior decide they need to look for their own places to live, Kyle—the individual who told Junior she was in the ghetto—joins them. Junior realizes that while he still needs to find his home, he could already have found his people when the roommates show up at a school in the afternoon.
