The Forgotten Ending Explained
This science fiction psychological thriller Twists your mind and compels you to think deeply about the movie’s ending. At the movie’s beginning, we meet Telly, a mother. One day, she wakes up and realizes that people around her tell her she never had a son and that all the scenarios she had made up in her mind are delusional.
Telly tries her best to reach out to other people and side with her, but everybody seems to be on the opposite side. Her friend Elliot, her psychiatrist, and even her husband tell her the Same thing.
The story then turns when the couple finds out about the NSA agents who can make people forget about their children. Successfully captures an agent who tells them they are helping protect humankind.
Telly then goes to Dr. Munce, who tells her more about these mysterious things. He says that “they” are responsible for everything, and the government knows about these trials. However, they have no power to stop it. The doctor takes Telly to an airport.
He makes her meet an agent. The agent tells her that the experiment is not over yet and she is also part of the experiment. They’re trying to find out if the experiment indicates a mother and child bond and if they can successfully erase the memories of a child from her mother’s memory.
He then tells her that, in her case, the memories of her son could not be fully erased, which is why she still remembers her son. The agent tells her that he needs to remember that she has an office; otherwise, his experiment would be labeled as failed.
Telly refuses and says she does not want to participate in this experiment. The agent, however, persuades her and asks her to think about her first memory of her son, Sam. She thinks of the time when he was born. The agent successfully erased her memory.
You might think the movie ends here, but this is not the end. The agent thinks that he has successfully experimented, but at this time, she recalls the time when she was pregnant, and this brings back all the memories that she had of Sam.
Before he can think anything else, the hunger roof blows off, and invisible folds pull him into the sky, ending the experiment. In the movie’s last scenes, we see that the couple, Ellie and Ash, are living a normal life, and Sam has reunited with them at the park. Though Sam does not remember what happened, Telly has everything fresh in her mind.
