Young Love is an upcoming animated series soon to premiere on HBO Max that tells a spin-off story we saw on the Academy Award-winning short “Hair Love”. With Issa Rae and Scott Mescudi voicing the characters, this show centers around an African-American family and their celebration of their culture, looks, and heritage.
This series embarks as one of the many projects that all major networks carry on in the effort to create original productions with the representation of minorities and their culture at a moment when identity politics is dividing the American public.

Young Love Preview
Young Love was created by Matt A. Cherry and promises to be a lovely, heartwarming, and fun look at the lives of African-American millennials during their parenting years. It tells the story of Stephen Love (voiced by Kid Cudi) and Angela Young (voiced by Issa Rae) as they go through everyday life.
Angela is a former cancer patient who must deal with her inner troubles as well as parenting a child. Meanwhile, Stephen is a music producer trying to make ends meet. The couple fathers Zuri (voiced by Brooke Monroe Conaway) in the city of Chicago as they go about things like studies, group identification, family values, creating a legacy, and other challenges.
This animated series takes inspiration from an Oscar-winning short film in 2019 called “Hair Love,” in which Zuri experiences the challenges of learning to admire her curly hair.
