The Continental: From the World of John Wick is an upcoming television miniseries that is a prequel to the John Wick film series. The show was developed by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, and Shawn Simmons, and directed by Albert Hughes and Charlotte Brandstrom.
The John Wick film series, starring Keanu Reeves in the titular role, follows John Wick, a hitman who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the men who killed his puppy, a gift from his dead wife. Each film in the John Wick has been a massive commercial and critical success. It is most famously known for its beautifully choreographed action sequences and its cyberpunk aesthetic.
American stuntman and director of the John Wick films, Chad Stahelski and the creator of John Wick, Derek Kolstad first conceived the idea for the prequel in 2017 and believed that the story would best fit the format of a television series.
In the movies, The Continental Hotel is a hotspot for assassins and criminals who are ‘off duty.’ It is run by an enigmatic man called Winston, who offers several services to its patron. The show is expected to be told from the perspective of a young Winston in the 1970s and his attempts to seize control of the hotel from Cormac (played by Mel Gibson), which serves as a neutral territory for the world’s most dangerous criminals.
The show will star Colin Woodell as Winston, Mel Gibson, Jessica Allain, Ben Robson, and Peter Greene. Produced by Lionsgate, The Continental will comprise 3 episodes, 90 minutes each, with the first episode releasing on 22nd September 2023.
