A Haunting in Venice features locations with beautiful backgrounds and an old-world charm in addition to a good story. Let’s look at the filming locations along with the sets to learn more about how the unsettling universe was created.

After watching the trailer for A Haunting in Venice, you might be thinking that it’s more of a horror film than a murder mystery. The movie, which is primarily a detective story, masterfully combines the two elements because of the location’s natural eerieness.

The story follows our now-retired main character, Poirot, who discovers that he is lured to a séance held inside the crumbling walls of a haunted palazzo, where the divide between the living and the dead is blurred.

A 13-year-old’s death shocks everyone in the room, and Poirot jumps into action, brushes his rusty defectiveness, and is determined to cut through the complex string of lies that are underneath the surface.

A Haunting In Venice Filming Locations

Filming started on Halloween, October 31, 2022, with much of the action taking place in Venice, Italy, and mixed by studio work at Pinewood Studios within Buckinghamshire, close to London, which is to heighten the tension and spooky atmosphere on set.

The Palazzo

The gloomy, canalside mansion owned by sad soprano Rowena Drake is the location for a lot of the action in the movie A Haunting in Venice. Although it perfectly fits the role, this is a stage set that Pinewood Studios within Buckinghamshire, UK, built from the ground up.

Branagh said that the reason he and his John Paul Kelly, production designer were unsuccessful in finding a residence in Venice was in part because the locals felt that all the palazzos were cursed.

The home’s design was likewise too specific to be ignored. Since the story takes place in a single building, it needs a variety of atmospheres to make the setting captivating, from the lovely rooftop garden up to the basement’s dark, conventionally spooky atmosphere with leaking walls and chains.

Venice Canals

Since the movie is set in Venice, showing off Venice’s unique network of canals only makes sense. The well-known Rio di Palazzo Canal and The Bridge of Sighs were also seen in the movie. The bridge connects the Doge’s Palace interrogation rooms to the New Prisons.

Poirot was seen in another late-night scene riding a gondola through the Venice canals, being directed by gondoliers who were wearing white Venetian masks.

Church of Miracoli

The Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a gem with breathtaking architectural beauty, hidden away within the Cannaregio sestiere in the center of Venice. This church, which dates to the fifteenth century, is an example of the skill and creativity of the Venetians.

It is known as “the marble church” and has an exterior with exquisite colored marble patterns and a calm interior. Take a moment to look at the exquisite decorations and the magnificent marble on the exterior that has withstood the test of time.

San Giorgio Maggiore

Everything outside the palazzo was filmed in real Venice. Laguna and San Giorgio Maggiore Island are two of the main locations. Poirot is shown here taking the most of his retirement by buying at a market that includes stalls along with straw baskets in the graveyard of the Andrea Palladio-designed basilica from the 16th century.

The Secret Staircase

The Scala Contarini del Bovolo, a spiral staircase that resembles a snail and winds around the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, is another marvel of architecture located in the San Marco sestiere. You will be amazed by this unique combination of Gothic along Renaissance styles. We are aware that climbing its Eighty steps might not be the best plan of action, but trust us when we say that you will be rewarded with unparalleled breathtaking views of the city’s rooftops.

The Grand Canal

When not stuck in their haunting mansion, Poirot and the others are seen traveling the canals in a number of vaporetti and gondolas. He visits the Palazzo Malipiero around Campo San Samuele along the Grand Canal; a Byzantine-style structure talked about for its gardens. Along with the Bridge of Sighs, the Rio dei Medicanti, the Rio di Palazzo, and the Rio del Pestrin with its wrought-iron Ponte dei Conzafelzi were all recently featured in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning.
