Making a list of the Top 10 Games of 2021 is not an easy task. Compared to the slump years caused by covid, companies have recovered from the damage and know how to operate. And we are glad they did cause last year was a blast, and it was sad to see it go. There is always a little doubt whether the next will hold up when any entertainment industry is good for a year. But so far, 2022 has been good. And yeah, we are a little late on making this list, but you know what they say. Better late than never.
We made sure to include what touched our hearts or piqued our interest in some way, and we hope the list below will do the same for you. Though we want to add more to the list, many games can go to honorable mentions. We will say we tried our best to make the list that will leave the most satisfied. Although we wish we could have included more Indies on the list, there is a high chance they will take over the 2022 list. So without further ado, the Top 10 Games of 2021 are listed below:-
10. Hitman 3:
The Hitman trilogy finally concluded and made everyone on board appreciative of the episodic take that the studios took with the franchise. The game outdid all the previous installments by giving us a narrative that goes so long. We don’t want to spoil anything, but if you can make some time, this game is one of the polished gems from last year.
9. ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights:
The year 2021 was the year of Indie games. And this entry on the list is what many people would put in their Top 10 Games of 2021. What makes the game special is its unique take on Soulsbourne and taking inspiration from Hollow knight as well. If you are waiting for Hollow Knight: Silksong, this game is the perfect way to spend your time waiting for it.
8. Scarlet Nexus:
One of the two best JRPGs from last year, the gameplay is simply out of this world. The game’s lore is something you have never seen before, and the mechanics will hook you as you go on. If there was one fault, we would say the characters needed a little more work—still a good entry for the Top 10 Games of 2021.
7. Tales Of Arise:
If you are someone who has lost faith in the tales series, then this is the game you need. Taking things to the next level, the game is rendered not in pixel style but in watercolor art. No doubt the game will age well in the coming years. And if you have already played it, you know how well the character and their interactions are. Though, this one falls short in the Lore department.
6. Deathloop:
If you liked dishonored, you would love this. Created by the studio Arcane, we have two assassins stuck in a time loop trying to kill each other. The game’s mechanics and tools exemplify a simple premise, but its quality. It took everything good from the dishonored and added things to make it fun.
5. The Forgotten City:
Skyrim mods are something else entirely. And this time, we explore the forgotten city in its own game. So how did it end her on Top 10 Games of 2021? The game premise is simple, but you get to experience its world this time than as a mod. The game asks the question of the relationship between humans and the laws it makes.
4. Death’s Door:
We said this game was the year of the Indies, and this is another indie that had us hooked. If you like Zelda and dark humor, this game is for you. The game, mechanics, and story are so well done we thought of putting it on first of the Top 10 Games of 2021. However, the dark, gritty humor can be off-putting for those looking for a light-hearted Zelda clone.
3. Halo Infinite:
The number of memes that followed the game’s announcement was staggering. What was promised as a launch title for Xbox X/S looked miserable. And perhaps, that worked in its favor. The game made a huge comeback with its gameplay and graphics update. The improvements were such a surprise that we repeatedly loved the franchise. Though the game lore is pretty deep at this point, newcomers will find it welcoming, and many people will have this entry in their Top 10 Games of 2021.
2. Eastward:
Another Zelda Inspired Indie game. Though there is more than just Zelda mixed into it. Things about Zelda clones, good Zelda clones, is that they would do things Nintendo. Eastward took inspiration from Zelda but also 90s RPG and Jrpg elements. They are combined and crafted so well that you will repeatedly come back to play this game. Modern Zelda has taken a completely new direction, and we don’t see them taking the old approach again. But it’s good to see this indie game preserving the old norm.
1. Resident Evil Village:
Some might argue this didn’t deserve to be here, while many would agree it should. The Vampire Lady game had its share of memes and art from the fanbase, but the overall game is top-notch quality. They earned the top spot in our Top 10 Games of 2021. The game continues to foster trust among fans for the franchise’s future. The game is a sequel to RE7, and with these two, we are assured that future games will be great as well.
Honorable Mentions: 2021 was a really good year for gaming but a hard year for picking favorites. We have listed games that deserved to be up there but didn’t quite make the cut. But that is not to say these titles are not interesting. If we had a bigger list, we would have put them there. The top 10 Games of 2021’s Honorable mentions are; Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Age of Empires 4, Psychonauts 2, and Back 4 blood.
