The recently released DC movie, The Flash, has quite a few surprises up its sleeve, and fans are here for them. The movie got launched on June 12th, 2023, and did not take very long to become a fan favorite. It has actor Ezra Miller, who, despite his continuous controversies, managed to tightly hold onto his role of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, along with Sasha Calle, Michael Keaton, Michael Shannon, and so many more.
One reason why the film became such a success has to be the merging of different DC worlds and the characters from these worlds interacting with one another, which is definitely something the fans do not get to see all that often. Actor Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck have returned as their own versions of Batman, throwing fans into a pitfall of memories.
With time travel, Batman from parallel universes, an intriguing storyline, and sprinkled humor throughout, DC fans cannot get enough of the movie. But there is another surprise element within the movie, which has shocked older DC fans, especially the ones who have been around since the late 90s.
While the entire movie did great with its story direction and older actors reprising their roles, the end of the film was the part that left fans shocked and wanting more. The movie, while coming to its end, introduced actor George Clooney‘s version of Batman for a few short minutes, and this cameo left fans gasping for air and wondering if the actor had decided to play the iconic role once again and be back for good.
Is George Clooney The New Batman?
The last time we saw George Clooney in his bat suit riding his bat mobile was way back in 1997, after which the actor swore never to wear his flying cape again. After his Batman movie was done and out, the actor revealed that the criticisms he received for playing the character were right.
The actor was unable to bring the intense broodiness to his character, which is kind of a staple for any version of Batman. His Batman lacked pain and depth, and the actor agreed that he was not the best for the role. Before the release of the recent Flash movie, there were rumors of the producers introducing a third Batman, not releasing exactly which one.
We now know exactly which Batman the makers were talking about, though it is still unclear if they plan on taking his cameo appearance further. In the film, we saw Barry Allen time travel in the past to set a few things right, which predictably messes with time and other parallelly existing worlds. So it is during the end, when Barry Allen assumes that he has fixed everything that went wrong because of the time travel that we see that Ben Affleck’s Batman, who was present throughout the film, got replaced with another Batman, which turns out to be George Clooney.
His cameo is a fun twist in the film, where his version of Batman got incorporated into the film along with the others. We are not sure if this means anything for George Clooney and his Batman or if DC would just stop at his cameo appearance. Considering how much Clooney hated his role in Batman & Robin, which he mentioned quite a few times in interviews, it is unlikely that he would return to the DC Universe as the new Batman.
The DCU films are all set to focus on The Flash series and movies, steering back to another one of their iconic characters, Superman, then turning back to Aquaman, and finally, in 2025, releasing another much anticipated Batman movie titled Batman Part II, starring the current Batman, Robert Pattinson.
Nowhere in this plan does Clooney and his Batman could fit in, though this is not to say that he will never return to the screen as Batman, only that if he does, it will likely be nothing more than a cameo appearance. The Flash movie had already cast two of the iconic Batman actors, and introducing one more, especially for a cameo at the end, is likely to have been done as nothing but a last easter egg within the film.
