The Promise Episode 4 Recap (Spoilers!)
The Promise Episode 4 begins with Phupha in the washroom, puking and practicing his lines for Romeo and Juliet. Worried Nanfah rushes to the washroom and tries to console his friend in his time of distress. The scene then switches back to the present, when Phupha comes to drop something at Nanfah’s office.
As soon as Nanfah’s boss, Ken saw Phupha, he demanded for him to be casted as the presenter for their project. Phupha had gone viral for one of his singing videos, and had a straightforward and diligent attitude, which Ken deemed fit for the project. He asked Nanfah if he would be able to cast his friend for the role, and Nahfah, though hesitant, agreed.
When the two of them met at night, Nanfah asked Phupha if he would be willing to be there presenter. On hearing this request, Phupha reminded him of their promise- that he would never make him go on stage again. The Romeo and Juliet scene that played in the beginning, was Phupha being Nnfah’s replacement after he hurt his leg.
Phupha had stage fright and was unwilling to participate in any activity or performances that made him stand out in public. He tells Nanfah how he might ruin his job if he took the role of the presenter, and he does not wish that upon him. Nanfah accepts his friend’s decision and doesn’t force it.At that moment, Phupha’s relatives give him a call, and the two of them interact with his family.
It turns out that Phupha had lied to Nanfah about staying in Mlebourne for the past ten years this entire time. His relatives advised him to tell Nanfah the truth or he would eventually find out sooner or later. To this, Phupha said he’ll tell him when the time is right.
The next day, when Nanpha tells Ken how Phupha is reluctant on being casted as the presenter, Ken says his decision on Phupha is final, and the team ought to find a way and bring him in. After hearing their boss’ order, the rest of the members of the office start hunting for Phupha and bringing him in to be their presenter.
The team tries all sorts of things – tarot cards, life coaches, Gie Gie’s lip balm that was supposedly supposed to make Phupha succumb to her wishes but instead was still reluctant on participating. In the end, it got too much for Phupha and he shoo’d all of them away.
The episode ends with Phupha worried about Nanfah and his job, and reminiscing all the memories the two of them cherished together. He finally rushes to Nanfah and the rest of the team to tell them he’s willing to be their presenter.
