After just two seasons, the Fox show Scream Queens got axed. But why, though? That was six years ago when famed producer Ryan Murphy got the wind that Fox pulled the plug on the edgy horror TV show that had —among others— Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, and Jamie Lee Curtis in the cast.
As with most Ryan Murphy shows, which combine shock value, edginess, and stunning visuals with great talent, the series managed to get some fans behind it, and after its cancelation, it reached a cult-like following. Then back in late 2019, Murphy innocently teased that he wanted to bring the show back, filled with hope for all those fans out there. Is there a possibility of a reboot, and if so, who would be in it? Let’s clear the air a bit to see if we can unpack this entertainment mystery.
The Scream Queens Story Of Success
The story arc of this show is something every generation can relate to: There’s a college campus where there are a group of cute, popular girls who look down on everyone who envies them. These drama queens had envious lifestyles and a sense of fashion until many people turned lifeless across the campus.
At this point, no one on campus could be trusted to help them or give these cute girls a sense of protection. So, it was the perfect time for someone to sneak in and eliminate one of them. But that’s just how season two ended, leaving the viewers wondering about who that might be.
Why Did Scream Queens Get Canceled?
The Chanel’s won’t be returning to the small screens. But you know that from a couple of years ago. But why? The horror series starring Emma Roberts got canceled because, in the eyes of Fox’s corporate management, the story arcs concluded after just two seasons.
That was the opinion of Fox’s CEO Gary Newman when asked about it during a Fox Upfront interview, where he added that the network “had no plans to go back there and get more stories”. In the end, when it comes to network television, it’s all about profits, margins, and ratings. Look at high-value productions on other networks like HBO, and you’ll realize that it’s all the same. While the decision might be unpopular, it’s up to corporate to make the decision.

Ryan Murphy Hints At Scream Queens Reboot In The Horizon
That decision shocked the public because the show had indeed managed to get some traction, and Ryan Murphy hinted to the press that he’d like to do it, but it’s within the studio’s prerogatives to pick it up. Reboot shows are a 50-50 shot. Still, the producer that brought us shows like Pose, Glee, and American Horror Story claims that if a reboot is possible, former cast members Lea Michelle and Emma Roberts would be on board.
What Would A Scream Queens Season 3 Be Like?
If a third season does pop up, and the cast —or most of it— is brought back together, we could learn the answer to the many things left unanswered at the conclusion of the sophomore installment. If you’re familiar with Ryan Murphy’s trajectory —previously on Fox, and now for Netflix, bringing us productions like “Dahmer”, and “Ratched” — you should expect that many characters would pass away in a third installment, including fan favorites. Still, Ryan Murphy has a way of storytelling that could bring back dead characters in the first two seasons through flashbacks, ghosts, or the like.
So, you could expect Hester to continue with her banter, maybe see Grace, learn about the future of Munsch after becoming a specialist, and learn of what happened with Chanel #5 and Zayzay’s hospitalizations. It’s all up for grabs, but the moment we learn of something concrete, we’ll surely post an update concerning this for you. For the moment, there’s no date in sight, only year-old rumors.
