Trying to figure out even the best anime of all time might be very difficult because there isn’t a yes or no scale when considering what would make an anime the best of all times. This also applies when trying to figure out the best high school anime of all time. There has to be a criterion, but even then, the anime might still lack what the others have.
So it is a controversial topic. But when referring to the list itself instead of an individual anime. Then we would know which anime would make lists as the best high school anime of all time. This means that we have to consider those anime with a huge fandom that has managed to take away the hearts of its followers. To make things easier, these will be anime that is entirely focused on high school life; however, it might be affected somehow.
Because we have some anime that seems like high school anime, but as things go, then they deviate from the high school life as we have seen with anime like Bleach. So they will have to follow a high school life combined with something else that usually takes place in the anime of its genre. There is much anime like those, so we should look forward to the best of the best here.
High school life has been mostly the focus age of most anime. Because even if you look at anime not based in high schools, you will find out that the protagonists’ age and even the antagonists are around the high school age. You will hardly find an anime where the lead character is some old goon unless they have reincarnated into a younger body.
1. High School of the Dead
With only one season and 12 episodes accompanied by an OVA. Maybe this might be one of the reasons why most people would get annoyed at this anime. Because for any anime, that is as good. We would need more content from it because we have watched it and liked it. Highschool of the dead anime follows the life of the present-day Japanese students, and the world is struck by a pandemic that turns humans into Zombies.
The main character would usually refer to these Zombies as them as we get to see a group of high school students and the school’s nurse trying to deal with the worldwide catastrophic event known as the Outbreak. They try to survive through these harsh times facing the additional threats of societal collapse as it has turned into dangerous fellow survivors.
2. Fruits Basket
Fruits Basket anime occurred when a high school student, Tohru Honda’s mother, died in a car accident, leaving Tohru in her grandfather’s care. Renovations in the house and unsupportive and unkind family members caused her to move out of her grandfather’s house temporarily. But Tohru decided to decline the offer to stay with one of her friends as she did not want to impose on them.
After she found out that a nearby home was inhabited by her classmate Yuki and his cousin. She decided to move into the Sohma house, and on her first day, she met Kyo, Yuki, and Shigure’s orange-haired causing, who crashed through the ceiling and challenged Yuki to a fight.
3. Nisekoi
Nisekoi anime has managed to gain considerable fandom due to its similarity with Fruits Basket and the interesting plot. They are both slice-of-life anime, and as we know, they mostly focus on the livelihood of high school students and how they accommodate and help each other.
Nisekoi is about the high school students Raku Ichijo and Chitoge Kirisaki, the daughter of a boss rival gang known as Beehive. When Chitoge and Kirisaki randomly meet, Chitoge hops o the wall and ends up Kneeing Raku on the face. But after She ran off, Raku realized that he had lost his locket, which he had kept since his childhood sweetheart gave it to him. But after finding out Chitoge was a new transfer student in the school, he forced her to help him look for his locket, but during the search, they only started to dislike each other.
4. Toradora
Toradora anime ran for one season, which had 25 episodes. It is one of the slices of life anime, and it follows the life of Ryuji Takasu, who was frustrated as he tried to look his best when entering his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes give him off as an intimidating delinquent, and he is happy to be classmates with his best friend Yusaku Kitamura as well as the girl he crushes on, Minori Kushieda.
Unexpectedly, he ran into the most dangerous animal of the highest risk level at school, Taiga Aisaka, who also seems to be Minori’s best friend. The GHQ Anit Bodies storm the workshop and arrest her for involvement with a Funeral Parlour. She then followed the coordinates of Inori’s robot to a drop zone where he met the Funeral Parlou’s leader, Gai Tsusugami, and asked him to safeguard a vial.
But as the unit bodes started to attack the Roppongi area looking for the vial. It ended up sharing as Shu went to rescue Inori when she was threatened by GHQ mechs. The vial had the Void Genome, a powerful genetic weapon derived from the apocalypse virus that granted Shu the Power of The King. An ability that allows his right hand to extract Voids weapons of people’s psyche given physical form.
6. Horimiya
Even though this anime is new to the anime world, its manga is not. Still, the fact that Horimiya anime went up the ranks and made it to the best high school anime of all time means that it is something. Horimiya anime follows the life of Kyoko Hori, who is a bright and popular high school student. In contrast, her classmate Izumi Miyamura is a gloomy and seemingly nerdy glasses-wearing boy.
While at home, Hori is a homebody and dresses down and looks after her younger brother Souta. She takes every attempt at hiding this from her peers to maintain her social status and cause others to worry. But one day, Souta went home due to a nosebleed and was accompanied by a boy with numerous piercings and tattoos. It later turned out that it was Miyamura who accompanied Souta, and he managed to recognize Hori even when she was dressed down, and this started their interesting love story.
7. Kaguaya-Sama: Love is War
Taking place at the renowned Shuchiin academy, Miyuki Shirogani and Kaguya Shinomiya are the student body’s top representatives. They are ranked at the top, but the nation’s students are respected by their peers. Despite having developed feelings for each other, neither will admit them, and they start with a contest where the first one to admit their feelings will be the one to lose.
8. Kill La Kill
Kill La Kill anime occurs in Honnouji Academy, a school ruled by students wearing special outfits known as Goku Uniforms. They deride the students and only see them like pigs in human clothing, but the student council president, Satsuki Kiryuin, and her loyal lieutenants, the Elite Four, take absolute control of the entire campus.
One day a vagrant schoolgirl named Ryuko Matoi appears and tries to get Satsuki, who recognizes her Scissor Blade. But their encounter seemed to be of fate as their clash is likely to consume the whole academy.
9. Assassination Classroom
With several seasons of this anime having been released. Assassination classroom undoubtedly makes the list of the best high school anime out there, and everyone would easily recognize Koro-sensei and the sacrifices he has made. From the beginning, it would seem that he had bad intentions. But once you have watched this anime, you will get to understand why it is amongst the best.
10. Classroom of The Elite
There is no need to explain why this is one of the best high school anime out there. Because it has been trending since it will be coming up with a new season next. So we are yet to see Ayanakouji continue with his masterpiece of strategies as he tries to maneuver through the flawed systems of the Tokyo Metropolitan school.
