Eventually, the show picked up its pace and became the most intriguing gangster drama ever made for Television. BBC had its blinders set very strategically for the success of the show. The casting, the direction, the cinematography, the action, the music every little thing fell on its part and did the job perfectly. Before the show drops in totality on Netflix on 10th June. The UK had finished the sixth season of Peaky Blinders. Director Steven Knight had announced earlier the preparation and plans for the sixth season and ahead. And that has held the fan base quite tightly to their seats for three long years. All the wait was amidst the pandemic and the untimely death of Helen McCrory shocked everyone too.
So, the sixth season was all about the reckoning of the Shelbys. There were numerous instances in the season which kept the heartbeat racing for the fans. So earlier season Aunt Polly had declared before her character passed away. That there will be a Shelby who dies in the war coming ahead. So it was a season that went through quite a few ups and downs of emotions. Early in the show, it was shown that Michael Gray cursed Thomas Shelby and promised a showdown with him once he is let off prison.
Meanwhile, Thomas Shelby has a huge revelation himself when he finds out that he has been diagnosed with cerebral tuberculoma. Tommy is shown to be broken and seeping into the darkness fighting death. Soon Tommy’s kept secret of his issue was found out by Arthur which powered a very emotional scene between the brothers which could be called an iconic scene. Then, a masterful and vengeful plan went on and ahead led by Tommy Shelby who became ruthless and was waiting to clear his dues before he takes the staircase to heaven/hell. Meanwhile, Tommy and Arthur took the mantle and surfed through claiming redemption from their dues from the previous years. Closing the season, fans saw an end to Michael’s arc and also completing the revenge of Aunt Polly’s death, killing off the character Captain Swing.
Will there be a Peaky Blinders Season 7?
Director Steven Knight has been very clear about a final season which is due soon. But recently before the sixth season was released, it was finalized that the sixth season would be the last one. And no there won’t be a Peaky Blinders Season 7. Also, Steven Knight has gone on record and discussed a potential spin-off movie for Peaky blinders. Because according to him the Shelby family has more to tell. At the end of the last season, it was thrilling to see how the tables turned. The whole season was about Thomas Shelby’s grand farewell.
There was a last supper sequence too, but the twist in the tale came in when the last scene of the season finale, showcased a broken and miserable Thomas Shelby waiting to shoot himself with the bullet which has his name engraved. But soon he gets interrupted by Ruby. And notices a newspaper clipping where Oswald and Diana’s wedding pictures were posted. There he saw the doctor who diagnosed him, having a ball during the celebration. Which triggered Tommy to realize that all this time, he was the theft of life and happiness by Oswald. He was kept in the dark and pushed into the hollow well of death to suffer and self destruct himself. Then Tommy decides to take the gun into his own hands to prepare for a reckoning which pushed him to visit the doctor and announce his enigma into his enemy’s lives.
Potential Story Arc For A Spin-Off
The whole climax sequence is powered by the magnificent director Knight. And he wants to pick the BBC flamboyance onto the big screen. Because British history is rich with aristocracy and Tommy’s rising into the politics and social strata did cause him a lot of damage. But that is exactly what could be explored more diversely once the movie is greenlit.
So considering all of that and more about how the Shelby brothers have survived World War. It could be a potential story arc too. Because often it has been discussed on the show, that what happened in the war zone and what exactly did change the Shelby brothers to be so ruthless and gritty. Maybe, the director can answer all those unanswered questions through the spin-off movie or movies. But till now nothing has been confirmed yet, other than the sixth season being the final and last run for the Peaky Blinders. Fans are now waiting for more to be announced because the official Twitter account of Peaky Blinders has also bid adieu to them. And denoted that “Now it is time for the Peaky Blinders to rest”.
