The recently announced science fiction thriller, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, has sent a wave of excitement through fans, leaving them eager for the release of the movie. With a trailer released just a week ago, the movie has raised a lot of questions among avid fans of both the movie and the novel series. Directed by Francis Lawrence, the movie has taken heavy inspiration from the 2020 release novel titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by author Suzanne Collins.
Much like the novel, the movie will be released as a prequel to all the Hunger Games movies released till now, giving insight into how that world came to be. Overall this will be the fifth addition to the franchise starring Peter Dinklage, Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, and many more. With only the trailer, the movie is expected to be out in theatres on November 17th, 2023.
With Lionsgate supporting the production of the film and director Francis Lawrence directing his fourth film of the franchise, the crew has revealed that the entire creative production process went really smoothly. A lot of attention was paid as to who was going to be cast in the movie as who, taking an entire year to figure out the actors playing the characters.
The movie is based a little over sixty years before the Hunger Games, the one we saw in the original series, began. It focuses on Coriolanus Snow and how he was pushed as a young boy to go on the path of becoming the cruel dictator of the land of Panem. Since the release of the trailer, many have questioned if the leader of the original Hunger Games series, Demon Slayer Manga: The Twelve Kizuki and Their Abilities Explained, will be a part of the new movie or not.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Absence From The New Movie
The movie producers have confirmed that this prequel to the entire franchise will be led forward by the characters of Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, along with others. Another thing that has been confirmed is that actress Jennifer Lawrence will not be returning as the beloved Katniss Everdeen, much to fans’ disappointment, who hoped for at least a cameo from the actress.
Her role would not be in this movie for more of a logical reason than a scandalous one. As we know, the movie is set sixty-four years before Katniss was forced to enter the Hunger Games in place of her young sister. Since the movie is set in a timeline that is nowhere even close to Jennifer’s character’s birth, it would make no sense for her to be in the movie.
The fact that the plot of the movie does not support the presence of her character is the biggest reason why Jennifer Lawrence will not be in the movie. But the fans continue to speculate that the former may appear in the movie for a small cameo role of Katniss’ grandmother, which fans believe could be Lucy Gray Baird or Maude Ivory Baird, two characters in the franchise who have never been confirmed to be related to Katniss.
But with the release of the trailer and further cast details, it has been confirmed that these roles have already been taken over by actresses Rachel Zegler and Vaughan Reilly. Apart from this, Jennifer Lawrence revealed how she felt when she heard the news of the prequel movie, saying that she was twenty-one when she took the role first and that hearing about the prequel made her feel “old as mold.”
She recalled thinking as a twenty-one-year-old that when they tried to make a remake of the original movies, she would be so old or probably dead. The fact that another Hunger Games movie is being made while she is still at the peak of her career made her feel so old that she decided to steer away from the movie completely.
It has also been revealed that Jennifer Lawrence has admitted to being done with the entire franchise and its future ventures as she plans on continuing with her well-established career in Hollywood. While there has been no confirmation from the production company, the actress has closed the conversation from her side, wanting nothing to do with the franchise anymore.
