Who Is Naziha Salim Trending Over Google?
Naziha Salim was born into an artistic family as her father was a painter, her mother was a skilled embroiderer, and all three of her brothers were involved in the arts in their own ways. Jawad Salim, her brother, was regarded as one of Iraq’s most influential sculptors. Naziha Salim, who has always had a passion for making her own art, enrolled in the Baghdad Fine Arts Institute to study painting and graduated with a distinction.
Determined to create a name for herself in the world of painting, she became one of the first women to receive a scholarship to the prestigious Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. While in Paris, she concentrated on honing the fresco technique for creating mural paintings, following which she traveled across the world for a few years to learn more about art and culture.
She later returned to Iraq and worked and taught at the Fine Arts Institute in Baghdad, where she remained a professor until her retirement. According to Google, Ms. Salim is one of the founding members of Al-Ruwwad, commonly known as the ‘Avant Garde’ group, which is “a community of artists who study abroad and combine European art techniques into the Iraqi aesthetic.” Al-Ruwwad was also the first group to travel to Europe and bring back techniques that may be incorporated into an Iraqi aesthetic. She also wrote the 1977 book Salim Iraq: Contemporary Art, which is still regarded as a valuable resource for studying Iraq’s contemporary art scene.
