Zack Snyder’s Justice League may not have had the best pacing and villain selection, but it featured some of the most absorbing fights ever seen in a DC movie, particularly those that involved Wonder Woman and The Flash. The movie had a whopping budget of $300 million, making it quite an expensive film from DCEU.
Although Zack Snyder serves as the director of the movie, the parts he directed were barely featured in the film since his previous works had received strong criticism. The story for the movie was provided by Chris Terrio, while the changes in the original work were done by Joss Whedon.
It was speculated that Snyder was fired midway through the movie, but those rumors turned out to be false as Zack was dealing with the death of his daughter and stepped down as a director himself. An uncut version of Snyder’s work was later released in March 2021 on HBO Max.
The movie has a star-studded cast with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher, all returning to play their usual DC roles. Henry’s return as Superman was hidden, but he appeared in the film promotions with the cast, so it wasn’t as big of a secret. Other cast members that were seen in the movie were Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta.
Justice League 2017: What Happens In The Movie?
Justice League revolves around Steppenwolf and his demons trying to take over the world by using the Mother Boxes. Back in previous times, the boxes were taken away from the supervillain by an army consisting of Amazons, Olympians, Gods as well as humanity. Coming back to the present times, we see that Superman is dead, and people are not at all happy.
The mother boxes seemed to be reactivated, and Steppenwolf was now back to regain the power that was once hidden from him. The existing superheroes must now unite against Steppenwolf and prevent his plans from succeeding.
Justice League 2017: Filming Locations
With the cinematographer as Fabian Wagner, the filming for Justice League began on April 11th, 2016. It majorly took place at the Leavesden unit of Warner Bros. Studios, although scenes of the film were also shot in London and Scotland. Places like Chicago, Los Angeles, and Iceland were also featured in a few of the scenes.
Djúpavík, Westfjords, Iceland:
We are taken to Iceland in scenes that revolve around Aquaman. Djúpavík is a remote village with a population of just above 50. It beautifully represents Aquaman’s home which is located in Amnesty Bay, Maine. Despite the less number of people living there, the village has about 780 km2 of land and is filled with scenic locations. Djúpavík has a single hotel and an abandoned Herring factory asides from the tiny homes.
Leavesden Studios, Hertfordshire, England:
Many parts of the movie were shot inside Leavesden studios, and the place also inhabited the fictional Central City that we see the Flash in. Batman’s Gotham City had also been shot at this studio in Hertfordshire. Other famous projects such as House Of The Dragon, Harry Potter, and The Batman were also filmed at Leavesden Studios.
Just a few kilometers away from the Warner Bros. Studios lies the Bovingdon Airfield, which was also included in Justice League. This Airfield was mostly used to represent Superman’s home in Smallville. Another place in Bedfordshire is the Biological Reserve which served as the place where Bruce Wayne resides. Although this place was featured in the original movie, the new version didn’t have any scenes of the Airfield.
Skrunda, Latvia:
Locals of Skrunda witnessed the film’s crew preparing to shoot at the place, but they weren’t aware that Skrunda was where the main battle of the movie was taking place. Since the place already looked like an abandoned area in USSR, it was able to make up a good location for the “Russian Village” from the film.
London, UK:
We see London quite a lot in the movie, and places like Central Criminal Court, Tower Bridge, and St. Paul’s Cathedral were also featured in Justice League’s filming. The clash between Wonder Woman and the terrorist group was filmed at Central Criminal Court.

The new version of the movie contains scenes that were filmed at Fred And Ginger Coffee, located in a remote village in Hertfordshire. The original place would differ slightly from the one we see in the movie as CGI effects were added to the place to make it more suitable for the movie.
At present, Justice League 2017 is available to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, and HBO Max.
