Where Was God Bless The Broken Road Filmed?
The majority of this movie was filmed in the great state of Michigan, home to the Detroit Tigers, Ford Motor Company, and the large automotive industry of the United States, a rural and industrial powerhouse, and also a great, beautiful place for the outdoors. The places chosen by the team to do the photography for this movie were Rockford and Manistee, two small local communities located in Northwestern Michigan known for its outdoors and small-town appeal. Let’s take a deeper look at some of these locations further down this post, shall we?
Rockford, Michigan
Many of the scenes for this movie were shot in Rockford, Michigan. If you’re not familiar with Rockford, Rockford is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan, situated on the Rock River just north of Lake Erie and about 30 miles (50 km) southwest of Detroit. Also, all over town, the filmmakers chose to shoot the exteriors to give God Bless The Broken Road its small-town appearance, feel and look. Also, the scenes shot in the diner and restaurants correspond to Rosie’s Diner, located on Mile Road.
Also, Rockford was originally named Coatesville after its founder, William Coates, who settled there in 1828 and built a sawmill along the river to manufacture lumber. Additionally, it was renamed Rockford in 1838 after the rapids which were located just upstream of the village. So, if you’re ever there, make sure to visit the forests and the outdoors!
Manistee, Michigan
This movie was filmed primarily all over the beautiful state of Michigan, the so-called Great Lakes State. And one of the locations chosen by the film crew was Manistee, a tiny little town in northwestern Michigan known for its beautiful scenes and outdoors. It’s a nice community that enjoys all that Lake Manistee has to offer. In the movie, if you see any water, the shots were taken there. Also, the scenes corresponding to Joe’s auto shop and the church parking lot were taken in midtown Manistee. More specifically on 312 River Street.
