Meghan Thee Stallion, the 27-year-old rapper from Houston, Texas, America, is known for the songs WAP, Hot Girl Summer, and so on. Her rap career officially started after she rose to fame in 2013 because of a video of her competing against male rappers in a freestyle that quickly gained popularity on social media. The single “Thot Shit,” off her first album Something for Thee Hotties (2021), peaked at number twenty in the USA and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. The album also reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200.
Tory Lanez is a well-known rapper, songwriter, vocalist, and record producer from Canada. 2016 saw the release of his studio album, “I Told You,” which featured the hits “Say It” and “Luv,” which were rated on the Billboard Hot 100.
In July 2020, she claimed to have been shot in the feet by rapper Tory Lanez after leaving a pool party in California. In December 2022, the 30-year-old Canadian was found guilty by a jury in Los Angeles of the felony of careless discharge of a handgun, attack with a semi-automatic weapon, and carrying an unregistered firearm while loaded.
What Happened to Megan Thee Stallion?
Both of her feet were shot with numerous bullet pieces, leaving her with severe gunshot wounds. But she recalls that the months after that were worse and more painful for her where She suffered from severe depression and suicidal thoughts.
She received a barrage of backlash for calling the police on Tory Lanez. The three-time Grammy winner has faced constant abuse, sexist charges, and even death threats over the past two years, but as soon as she started speaking during her testimony, her voice almost instantly broke, and emotions started to pour. Months later, Lanez claimed Megan was “trying to frame” him in a new record while vehemently denying all claims.
Megan penned a guest post for the New York Times in October 2020, criticizing how society fails to protect and value Black women. On December 12, 2022, more than two years after the shooting, the trial got underway. Several individuals showed there to support Megan.
Megan claimed to have seen Tory with the gun and recalled him firing at her from his SUV while yelling, “Dance, bitch!” she also claimed that Tory promised her $1 million in exchange for her silence. The rapper asserted that Lanez became upset as a result of her criticism of his artistic ability. She said that just before he opened fire with five shots when she had begged to be released from his car.
During the testimony of Kelsey Harris, a former friend, and assistant, on December 14, the prosecution showed excerpts from an audio recording of her September interview in which she said that she saw Lanez shooting out of the passenger seat. Harris claimed during her testimony that she “wasn’t truthful” while commenting in September. She denied that Lanez had threatened her and stated she couldn’t remember his firing at Megan.
Lanez refuted the allegations regarding the argument with the other artist, and his attorney George Mgdesyan tried unsuccessfully to claim that the inquiry was flawed. Lanez declined to give a defense witness testimony due to the exceeding amount of evidence against him.
The verdict
After deliberating for one day, the jury of seven women and five men found the 30-year-old Canadian rapper guilty of assault with a semiautomatic pistol, possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a moving car, and reckless use of a firearm. Tory now faces a sentence of more than 22 years in jail, which will be decided on January 27 during sentencing.
While the verdict was being read, Mr. Lanez had no outward reaction. In the courtroom itself, he was handcuffed and arrested. After the verdict was announced, numerous members of Tory’s family, including his father and stepmother, yelled that the legal system was an evil one and that it stood before God. His family members were encircled by deputies as they led them from the courthouse.
Alex Spiro, the lawyer representing Megan Thee Stallion, stated that the jury rendered the proper verdict and that he is grateful that Megan has received justice.
