The year 1999 was a defining in the manga industry as the Naruto manga created by Masashi Kishimoto started. Seventy-two volumes collected over 700 chapters and 700 episodes, including various movies, and we got the superhit anime Naruto. Naruto will go down in history as one of the best anime ever made. Naruto has given us so many memorable moments, be it emotional, suspense, action, you name it, and Naruto has covered every genre. With so many fascinating characters throughout the show. Fans often wonder and argue over who are the strongest Naruto characters. The Naruto universe is very vast with many characters.
In this article, we will take a look at the ten strongest characters in Naruto. We will try to include every deserving character in this list. To spice things up a little bit, we will include the characters from Boruto too. Furthermore, our list will also contain the antagonists to make it much more interesting than others. With that said, let’s dive into the Naruto universe!
10. Itachi Uchiha
The best member of the Uchiha clan, the person who sacrificed himself for the sake of his village. No words of praise are enough for the legendary Itachi Uchiha (that’s right, Itachi deserves a legendary title). Although Itachi is not the strongest of the Uchiha, he still is extremely talented and has a lot of tricks under his sleeve. We’ll tell you all the reasons and then it is up to you to decide whether we are right or not. Being such a great character, it is no doubt that Itachi was the favorite Akatsuki member of Masashi Kishimoto.
Itachi probably has the most effective genjutsus in the Uchiha clan. He awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan at the age of 12 only. Upon witnessing Shisui’s death, Itachi was very emotional and thus got his Mangekyou Sharingan. Itachi also has the Amaterasu, black flames which extinguish only after burning its target. If this were not enough, Itachi has the Uchiha special, Susanoo. Although he does not have a perfect Susanoo, Itachi’s Susanoo is still very powerful with the Yata mirror and the Totsuka sword in its hands. Those still doubting Itachi should know this too. Itachi escaped from Kabuto’s control when he was reanimated during the war. Such is Itachi’s greatness, and no one shall ever doubt it again.
9. Obito Uchiha
Next on the list is another person from the Uchiha clan. The Uchihas are sure filled with super talented people. Uchihas were destined for greatness if it were not for the events that took place in Naruto Shippuden. Obito was feared among the nation under the pretext of him being Madara. But even though he was not Madara, he still is very powerful. He started a full-fledged war against all five nations.
His Kamui is one of the best moves in Naruto. How well he can exploit Kamui, we have seen it several times. Obito even took one of Nagato’s rinnegan. As the ten-tail jinchurki, Obito is one of the strongest shinobi. The ten tails’ jinchurki version of Obito is even stronger than the 1st Hokage, Hashirama Senju. He destroyed the alliance force single-handedly and easily fought off 3 Hokage. At the age of 14-16, Obito even attacked Konoha by summoning the Nina tails fox, which ultimately resulted in the painful death of Minato Namikze and Kushina.
8. Nagato (Pain)
Nagato is the student of the legendary Sannin of leaf, Jiraiya. It was truly heartbreaking seeing Jiraiya die at the hands of his student. Even after killing Jiraiya and then destroying the Konoha village, Nagato is still one of the most loved characters in the Naruto series. Nagato witnessed his parents’ murder during the third great ninja war. Sometime later, he met with Yahiko and Konan. Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan were trained by Jiraiya, who met them during the war. After completing their training, they sought out others like them and formed the Akatsuki. This Akatsuki was purely created to ensure peace in the shinobi world.
Hanzo made peace with the Akatsuki only to betray them later on. Hanzo of the Salamander cornered Nagato into killing Yahiko. This resulted in Nagato getting furious. While angry, Nagato unleashed the Deva Path and attacked Hanzo’s men. Nagato went on to create the Six Paths of Pain. He took his revenge later by killing Hanzo.
Pain has 2 of the most destructive abilities. The Shinra Tensei (Almighty Push), which he used to destroy the whole leaf village. Another ability is Chibaku Tensei (Planetary devastation), using which he can attract all the objects in a vicinity into a sphere and make it look like a satellite. He used the Chibaku Tensei to almost capture Naruto in his tailed beast form. Nagato has a very large chakra reserve as he controlled the Six paths of Pain at once. Even after the fight, he had enough chakra to use Rinnegan’s revival jutsu to bring everyone in the village back to life.
7. Madara Uchiha
Next up is the Ghost of the Uchiha, one of the most feared shinobi of his time, Madara Uchiha. Madara is one of the primary antagonists of the Naruto series. He is also the founding father of the Hidden Leaf village alongside the first Hokage Hashirama Senju. Madara’s speech, ‘wake up to reality… ‘ to Obito is one of the best lines in anime history. Madara was so clever, he literally came back from the dead. After his defeat at the hands of Hashirama, in what seemed to be the final fight, Madara was buried. But he had already installed Izanagi in his left eye. The Izanagi helped Madara come back to life at the cost of his left Sharingan.
Later on, towards his death, Madara awakened the Rinnegan. Madara was the one who guided Obito on a destructive path. He made Obito start the war. When he entered the fourth great ninja war, everyone was shocked. Ohnoki, who had faced Madara once, was extremely shocked to see him. After entering the battlefield, Madara easily took on the whole shinobi alliance single-handedly. He used the Tengai Shinsei to rain down an asteroid on the earth. Madara, after betraying Obito and becoming the sage of six paths, was extremely strong. Madara was so powerful that even his clones could use the Susanoo.
6. Sasuke Uchiha
Sasuke Uchiha is, without a doubt, the most powerful Uchiha in Uchiha history. He went rogue at a young age to become more powerful. His only goal at that time was to kill Itachi, his elder brother, to exact revenge on the fallen Uchiha clan. After getting the curse mark from Orochimaru and mastering it, Sasuke presumably killed Orochimaru (though he came back to life). After that, Sasuke went on to fight Deidara. Deidara blew himself up to kill Sasuke but was not successful. Sasuke then fought Itachi in a legendary battle. Itachi died while fighting. Obito then revealed Itachi’s truth to Sasuke. Sasuke felt the grief of losing his only kin and awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan. He even got the Amaterasu from Itachi before the latter’s death.
Sasuke then went on to kill Danzo in another epic battle. He then came to the aid of Naruto during the fourth great ninja war. After coming back from the dead, Sasuke gained rinnegan in his left eye. After getting the rinnegan, Sasuke became 2nd most powerful shinobi in the world, only behind Naruto. In the battle of the final valley, Sasuke depicted his true strength against Naruto. Soon after the end of the war, Sasuke took control of all the tailed beasts. He attacked Naruto ruthlessly and launched his deadliest attack yet, Kirin. In Bboruto, too, Sasuke is extremely powerful, that is until he lost his rinnegan to Momoshiki-controlled Boruto.
5. Naruto Uzumaki
At 5th is our beloved Uzumaki Naruto. We know the place given to Naruto is very low. But, we shall give you all the reasons later on for doing so. Where shall we even begin with Naruto? He is the central protagonist and was always destined for greatness. Being the Hokage was his only dream. He faced a lot of hardships in his life but ultimately achieved that dream. Being the son of Minato and a student of Jiraiya, he used all his might to end the great ninja war.
Talking about Naruto’s arsenal, he has many abilities under his sleeve. The most used and most common one of his abilities is the shadow clone Jutsu. Naruto has also mastered the Rasengan. He even upgraded the Rasengan by creating Rasenshuriken. Naruto also knows the Sage art, which he used proficiently against Pain. Later on, Naruto befriended Kurama and gained the Kurama chakra mode. Naruto then used the sage of six paths mode to battle Kaguya. Even still, all this was not enough when Naruto faced Isshiki Otsutsuki. Naruto had to go all out against Isshiki to save Kawaki. The Baryon mode of Naruto is the most powerful Naruto we have ever seen, and we will ever see. With Kurama dead, Naruto can only use his sage mode (sage of six paths mode is still ambiguous in Boruto).
4. Boruto Uzumaki
Naruto’s son and his successor Boruto Uzumaki take up 4th place on our list. Since birth, Boruto has been determined to overtake his dad as the strongest shinobi. Though at the start Boruto was just mischievious, he has developed a lot since then. In their fight against Momoshiki, we all saw a glimpse of what Boruto can do. At the very start of Boruto, we see both Boruto and Kawaki atop a destroyed Konoha, duking it all out. That is the moment where we all know that Boruto is deemed to surpass Naruto.
As the copy ninja, Kakashi once said that the current generation will always be surpassed by the future generation; we can agree on the fact that Boruto will become stronger than his dad. Like his father, he too can use the shadow clones. Boruto can also use both wind and lightning styles. Boruto’s karma is the source of his godly powers. His karma gave birth to what fans now call as BoruShiki (Boruto’s state when being controlled by Momoshiki). With all this, he also has the Jougan. What exactly is Jougan, nobody knows yet. Only the Otsutsukis know about the Jougan and claim it as very troublesome. So once Boruto has unlocked the powers of the Jougan, he is sure to reach new heights

3. Isshiki Otsutsuki
Isshiki Otsutsuki is the strongest of the Otsutsukis. He came to earth thousands of years back with Kaguya. Kaguya betrayed him and left him for dead. Isshiki somehow went inside the body of a monk named Jigen, and it became his host. Later, Isshiki formed the Kara and went on the pursuit of finding a proper vessel which he found in Kawaki.
Many of you might be wondering why Isshiki is above Naruto even when Naruto almost defeated him. That there only is the reason. Naruto almost defeated Isshiki, and not completely. Without Baryon mode, Naruto and Sasuke combined were no match for Isshiki, let alone Naruto. In Baryon mode, too, Naruto could fight Isshiki only for some time. Isshiki is one of the strongest characters in the Naruto universe. He has two different dojutsu. In his left eye is the very useful Byakugan. While his right eye is not known what it is but is extremely powerful. He can use the ability Sukunahikona using his right eye to shrink anything he likes and keep it a separate dimension of his. He can then summon these things anywhere, anytime.
2. Kawaki
Kawaki takes the 2nd spot on our list of most powerful characters in Naruto. Yes, we know Kawaki has not done much in the anime to be worthy of this spot, but all the manga readers will agree with me. Kawaki, just like Boruto, will become the strongest shinobi in the world in upcoming years. It is interesting to see what exactly Kawaki is going to do, which results in the destruction of Konoha. What exactly will he do to Naruto when he says that he will send Boruto to the same place where he sent the Lord Seventh. This does not specifically mean that Kawaki killed Naruto. He might have sent Naruto to another dimension for his safety.
Now coming to the tremendous powers and abilities of Kawaki. Kawaki has been using the karma seal since a young age and can use it more efficiently than Boruto. When Isshiki revived himself and attacked Konoha, Kawaki’s karma vanished. But, as revealed in the manga, Amado had restored Kawaki’s karma without the latter’s knowledge. Kawaki showed his new karma just when Borushiki was about to attack Naruto. There, we also got to know that apart from all the karma powers, Kawaki can also use the Sukunahikona. At that point, even Eida told Code to retreat as Code is no match for him. It will be very interesting to see how Kawaki is going to grow in the anime.
1. Code
Code is relatively a new character introduced in Boruto, yet he is one of the strongest ones within the Naruto universe. He was originally meant to be the vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki. In the anime, Code has been shown only a few times, and he has been talked about. Kawaki knows Code and how powerful he is. Code is so strong that Amado had to put limiters on him as he was more powerful than Jigen.
Code uses his claw marks to travel through various places. This ability is similar to Minato Namikaze’s and Tobirama Senju’s flying Raijin ability using which both can teleport to other places. We all wanted Naruto to inherit something like the flying Raijin, but it is Code who has something close to this ability. Similar to Kawaki, Code can use his hands as a razor-sharp weapon. Code also has karma, which is white. We still don’t know who is stronger, Kawaki or Code, as both are almost at the same level. With the latest chapter of Boruto, fans are starting to believe that Code indeed is the strongest character in Naruto. At the end of chapter 70 of Boruto, Code had Amado remove his limiters, significantly increasing his powers which we are yet to see.
